IKEA and Annie Leibovitz launch mentorship programme for aspiring photographers

Corporate news2 June 2023

Annie Leibovitz stepped into the role of the first IKEA Artist in Residence in January 2023.

Through her work with IKEA, the renowned photographer is interpreting some of the most striking insights from the latest Life at Home Report, translating them into stunning portraits of twenty-five people in seven countries across the globe.

Now, as part of IKEA Artist in Residence: Annie Leibovitz, an exciting new mentorship programme has been announced. Five aspiring young photographers will have the unique opportunity to be mentored by Leibovitz and IKEA, undertaking the same brief as Leibovitz: to interpret insights from the annual IKEA Life at Home Report through the lens of a camera.

The Mentorship is open to aspiring photographers between the ages of 18 to 25, who are invited to submit their application between the 1st and the 30th of June. Running from July to November 2023, the programme will offer the five mentees advice and guidance from Leibovitz, mentorship from IKEA experts including Creative Director of Ingka Group, Marcus Engman, as well as payment for their work. More will be revealed about how IKEA will share the final portraits captured across the duration of the partnership with Annie Leibovitz, but the work of the mentees will feature as part of the conclusion to this Artist in Residence collaboration.

Belén Frau, Global Communication Manager at Ingka Group (IKEA Retail) says, “At IKEA, we’ve always understood that a better everyday life starts at home. We know homes are much more than four walls and a roof. Homes are created by the people who live there, shaped by the activities they love and their needs as individuals. Through this unmissable mentorship opportunity with Annie Leibovitz, we want to empower the next generation of photographers. We want them to see what magic can happen when they look to the home as a source of inspiration.”
