Reviews

Curio reviewDanielThis product is very nice. The directions could have been better, but it took us a long time to assemble after having to take pieces off and adjust due to the directions.5
Heavy dutyAngela S.We built this for my mother in law. Instructions where terrible, BUT it was still easy to put together once you figure out the pieces needed. Nothing was marked. It is o e of the most sturdy pieces I have ever gotten from ikea we love it5
Newest Cabinet has malfunctioning doors. Disappointing.NicoleI got 2 of these cabinets 4 years ago & I have loved them. We recently bought a third for our dining room based on the quality of the first two. This newest one took 2 people (who have assembled MANY Ikea pieces without issue) 9.5 hours (6.5 before giving up in a hail of expletives & sweat + another 3 hours the following day to put together and the doors don't work properly: Catches hard at the bottom & doors don't close all the way. Used every combo of wheel settings. Nothing like the other units I got long ago. It is so heavy & the boxes ripped at opening so returning it to a store seemed a far worse fate then re-drilling holes & re-routing the channel for the backboard. I would say "these things happen" but 2 of 3 pieces we ordered this time needed other tools & hardware to assemble. (IKEA: IF YOU'RE READING THIS PLEASE DON'T SAY YOU'RE HAPPY TO REFUND IF WE BRING THIS BACK TO YOUR RETURN DESK. We paid for delivery for a reason. Sadly we are now stuck with a malfunctioning unit.)2

Fits my style perfectlyKiraI have one of these cabinets in my bedroom to show off my figures and other knickknacks. I'm a big fan of black furniture with black/gold accents, so this is right up my alley! It matches my SAGSTUA bed really well too. My only gripe is with the assembly. I didn't have anything in my apartment to elevate it during assembly, which made it pretty difficult. The most frustrating part was sliding in the back panel; I must've spent a half hour trying to slide that thing into place. Besides that, though, I really do like this cabinet.4
Beautiful cabinetColeenBeautiful cabinet! It’s heavy and well made and looks expensive. I highly recommend hiring someone from Task Rabbit to assemble. It took him just a little over 2 hours to put together two cabinets.5
Beautiful cabinetTarynI love this cabinet and use it as a liquor and wine cabinet completed with glassware. The three side display shows all of the cabinet’s contents which I’ve added family photos on top of. This is a stunning piece of furniture.5

An excellent cabinet for displayingCoreyAn excellent cabinet for displaying collectibles and not having to worry about dust5
Looks out of a magazine!JackI love, love the look of this piece. The look is high end with the glass and brass accents. I bought 2 for my living room. It took me and my daughter a little over 2 hours each. On the first one the soft door closes perfect. The second one jammed every time you open the doors and it’s not as smooth. We had to mess with the bottom rolling metal wheels on the doors quite a few times before it was better but still not perfect. With that said I would purchase these again. You can’t find a piece like this for this price anywhere else.3

Excellent for classy vinyl storageRebekahI bought two of these for my music room. They are storing 600 vinyl records and other items. They could probably hold three times that amount. The quality of materials in these cabinets is top notch. I didn’t even realize that IKEA made products of this caliber. The finish on the black wood grain looks amazing and looks very much like real wood. The metal handles and soft close close doors really finish off the premium look and feel. I bought some cheap Amazon led puck lights and put one on each shelf and it works really good. Finally, the assembly was straightforward and moderately detailed. Me and my husband assembled both cabinets in around two hours and had no issues.5
MALSJO Joy!ElijahThe pieces look stunning! The four pieces are well constructed, and showcase the crystal and art we have collected. All pieces were assembled by Taskrabbit.5

Great pieceNancyWonderfully made!5
Beautiful & UniqueChelseaWonderful unique looking piece! Quality is great and the sliding glass doors provide a library feel. We bought three, and they look beautiful. Getting the back on was definitely a two person job, but otherwise they went together quite smoothly.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is veneer?

A veneer is a thin wooden sheet attached to things like particleboard to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak, and beech, and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life.
