What is the IKEA policy on packaging?

It all started in 1955 when an IKEA employee removed the legs from under the LÖVET table because otherwise it wouldn't fit in his car. This decision marked the beginning of our flat packs. The advantage is that you can easily take your purchases with you in the trunk, without having to arrange transportation.

In addition, we can keep costs down because we don't have to assemble the product. We can use fewer trucks and save on packaging materials. We also want to reduce our impact on the environment by using materials that are recyclable. For example, we have banned Styrofoam from all of our flat packaging. This has been replaced by a recyclable alternative that, like Styrofoam, is a natural shock absorber.

Our ambition is to use only renewable or recycled materials in our products and packaging by 2030.
