What is a gift registry and how does it work?

The IKEA gift registry is the solution for you to receive the gifts you need for special occasions such as wedding, housewarming, baby shower or other events. Unfortunately, it is being discontinued. You can still edit and send existing registries as usual until 1st of December 2026.

Create a new IKEA gift registry
The IKEA gift registry is being discontinued. You can only edit and send existing registries until 1st of December 2026, after which the feature will no longer be available.
Modify an IKEA gift registry
Existing registries can be edited. The following functions are still available:
a. Choose a matching picture from our photo gallery
b. Change title, description and event date
c. Add participants
d. Add products from the product page or from the gift registry page
e. Delete the gift registry
Share an IKEA gift registry
The gift registry can be shared with family and friends so they can choose gifts from it.
The following options are available:
a. Under Settings > Sharing options, copy the sharing link.
b. On the gift registry page, select the “Copy registration link” option.
Info: It’s not possible to print gift registries in IKEA stores. However, the gift registry can be managed digitally at any time via smartphone or laptop.
Buy gifts from a gift registry
After receiving a gift registry link, you can choose whether to buy the gifts online or in an IKEA store.
a. Buy online
- Add the desired product to the gift registry.
- Use the gift symbol to go to the gift registry page.
- Select the desired shopping method.
- Optionally leave a personal gift message.
The gift message is sent digitally to the person receiving the gift and can be displayed and downloaded on the gift registry page. It is not a physical card.
Buy in a store
- Select the “Buy gifts in store or already bought” option.
- Select the relevant store.
- Mark the products that have been bought.
- Then select “Mark all as bought”.
If a receipt is needed, it must be requested directly at the checkout when buying. It’s not possible to issue it afterwards.
Notifications and purchase status
The person who created the gift registry receives an e-mail notification as soon as a product is bought online or marked as bought in the store. It is also marked as such in the gift registry.
Gift wrapping and delivery
Gifts from a gift registry can’t be wrapped by IKEA. However, suitable gift wrapping can be bought separately in the IKEA range.
Additional services can’t be combined with gift registry purchases. This means gifts from a gift registry also can’t be delivered to another person.
