How does the IKEA planning service work?

IKEA offers a wide range of planning services to support you at every stage of planning your home project. From kitchen to wardrobes or storage solutions, here is how you can choose the level of help that suits you best.

Our home furnishing specialists can help you design and plan your kitchen, wardrobes, bathroom or storage in planning appointment, which can happen online, in one of our stores or in one of our Plan an Order Points.
This is how the IKEA planning service works:
1. Before the planning appointment
a. Get inspired
Spend some time browsing our room inspiration and exploring our IKEA Kreativ 3D room planner or our online product planning tools.
Make a list of all your essential needs and wishes to create your dream space. A drawing or a photo of the space can also be very useful. Take notes on which styles, colours, products and ideas you like so it’s easier during the planning appointment to understand what designs and looks you prefer.
Note: If you use one of our online planning tools to create a design, be sure to be connected with your IKEA Family profile and to save the design code. You will need it to edit your plan later or to use it during the planning appointment. You can find your planning code at the end of the planning tool page by selecting 'Finalise'. If you prefer to receive a link or an e-mail with your specific design and planning code, select 'Save for later' and follow the on‑screen steps. Note: Its not possible to open a design within the IKEA app.
b. Measure your space
We will need details of the relevant space or room. Record measurements of height, width and depth as well as positions and dimensions of electrical outlets, doors, windows, etc.
c. Book a planning appointment
Choose one of the offered IKEA planning service options fitting to your needs and schedule an appointment online, in store or at a Plan and Order Point.
You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Follow the link in this e-mail if you need to reschedule or cancel your planning appointment.
2. During the planning appointment
a. Be ready
Take everything you prepared along with you (design code, measurements, photos etc.)
b. Discuss your wishes and be ready for new ones
Have an open dialogue with our specialists about your wishes and budget. Be also ready for new ideas - and limitations you maybe didn't think about. and wishes with our specialist during your planning appointment.
c. Receive your design
You will then receive a design code for your personal planning including a 3D plan and a list with all used products.
3. After the planning appointment
a. Finalise your order
When you’re happy with the final design, we will accompany you through the purchasing process and support you with adding services like delivery, assembly and many more.
