How to keep your decorative vases sparkling clean
Especially with glass vases, cleanliness is key. But what about narrow-necked vases or clear glass vases where every mark shows up? Here are a few tips:
Avoid vinegar and harsh chemicals
Vinegar or aggressive chemicals can leave residues that harm plants. It’s better to use citric acid or baking powder with warm water (make sure your decorative vase is suitable for liquids), let it soak, then rinse thoroughly.
Reach every spot in the vase
For slim vases or those with a narrow neck, add some rice with water, swirl it around gently to dislodge dirt, then rinse. A bottle brush (or a long stick wrapped in a cloth) is also perfect for cleaning inside.
Dishwasher cleaning? Best avoided
Strong chemicals and hot water can damage delicate vases. Plus, there’s no guarantee that narrow vases will be properly cleaned or free of chemical residue. That’s why handwashing is usually better. But don’t worry – you’ll also find vases at IKEA that are specifically marked as dishwasher-safe.
