Local Community
October 18, 2020 - IKEA Ottawa donated home furnishings to Maison D'Amitié, a women's shelter here in Ottawa. They received 20 packages of home furnishings for women that will be transitioning out of shelter and into their new homes with a little help. Bathroom supplies, pots and cookware, laundry needs, bedding, pillows, blankets, and more.
IKEA Canada receives a high volume of requests every week to support various worthwhile projects. At IKEA, having a positive impact on people and the planet is an essential part of our business.
Each IKEA store supports local initiatives that align with our charitable giving policy. Please send your donation request to the IKEA Ottawa Store for consideration.
People & Planet
Tree planting October 2020
October 5, 2020 - In partnership with Tree Canada IKEA Ottawa donated and planted 125 trees at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital to provide the campus with more calming greenspace for staff, visitors and patients to use.
Each year, the trees that IKEA Ottawa co-workers plant provide significant benefit to communities including reducing noise, cleaning air, preventing soil erosion, protecting wetlands, helping urban wildlife and biodiversity, and creating beautiful shaded places for people to play and relax in our local community.
Since the partnership began in 1996, IKEA Canada together with Tree Canada have planted nearly 55,000 trees to help green communities across the country.
IKEA Ottawa donates surplus food through Second Harvest Food Rescue
IKEA Ottawa works with Second Harvest Food Rescue to donate excess, unsold food from the IKEA Restaurant and Swedish Food Market. The recovered food is given to local charities and not-for-profit organizations through ongoing and one-time donations, here in our own community instead of throwing good food out.
Since April 2020, IKEA Ottawa has donated over $15,000 in food through Second Harvest Food Rescue to organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa.
Reducing food waste in a safe and secure way while helping to feed our neighbours in need is just another way we work sustainably here in Ottawa to have a positive impact on people and the planet.
