Great Chair!Elaine S.Not too big, not too small - just the right size, weight and color. Doesn't overwhelm the room and comfortable to sit on! The first one took us a little time to figure out, but then it went more quickly. We highly recommend!5
Nice item we likedmichelineThe perfect chairs matching with the table5
broke after 5 monthsZack H.I purchased 6 of these two years ago and they held up ok and bought 2 more last November and there was a slight redesign. the design change made it easier to remove the seat and replace the cushion with like a plastic snap in click feature. well as such, I suspect this change has made the chair less durable as last week, about 5 months after purchase the front left leg plain broke off. and the wood on the frame splintered near the hold for the plastic clip thing. I called to try to get a replacement and they denied me. so thanks for nothing Ikea.1

Nice chairs!LiliaPurchased these to go with my black dining table. They are comfortable with the cushion. Husband put them together (he is an expert assembler; however, they are just a micro-tad wobbly. We think they will even out as they are used. Still very satisfied!4
The model was what weHANNEThe model was what we were looking for to go with a great IKEA dining table. Nice seat. However, the wood frame looked and felt terrible. Very disappointed. Had to return the chairs.1

Dark brown color inconsistentfrances l.I just brought 2 dark brown 8chairs to add to my dinner set with 6 dark brown chairs that I brought previously. After assembling the 2 chairs and put them next to the 6 chairs to compare. The 2 new chairs are a lot lighter in color. They looked brown instead of dark brown. The article number of the new chairs are 403 411 15 from aisle 15 bin 15 in the Conshohocken, PA store. I'm frustrated and not happy because I wasted a lot of time and money to buy the 2 chairs. I also had a $10 birthday coupon that will be wasted when I return the chairs. I'm disappointed of the poor quality control from your company. This is Terrible!2
Good Basic ChairTerriThis is a good comfortable chair.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is foam?

Foam is excellent as upholstery in seating and mattresses since it provides good comfort and can relieve pressure by moulding to the body. Depending on the properties and feel you’re looking for, there are several qualities to choose from, like high-resilience foam and memory foam. The raw material for foam was previously based entirely on virgin fossil materials. But today, together with our suppliers, we’ve begun developing a material that is renewable and recycled.

Function solution

Simply remove and wash

A chair probably is the most used piece of furniture in the home. It should be able to cope with everything from sticky children's fingers to quick breakfasts and long dinners. That's why it can be practical to choose a chair with a removable, washable cover from the start. Then you won't have to buy a new chair or re-cover your old one if an accident should happen. You can simply remove the cover and wash it. Afterwards the chair is like new again. A clever choice, isn't it?

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

“For me, the dining area is the given center of the home. My idea with EKEDALEN series was to make a dining set for everything from large dinners to doing homework and crafts. The table is easy to extend, and since the legs follow the table when it’s extended, guests won’t have table legs in the way. The chairs are comfortable and the covers are machine-washable. And you can squeeze together on the bench to make room for everyone. Flexible and functional for modern homes.”
