Why does the availability of the products change throughout checkout?

This has to do with the way the systems work within IKEA. The speed at which an item is sold differs per IKEA store. The stock that we 'hold' in the system is intended to prevent the same product from being sold twice.

It may happen that you have bought a product from IKEA, but that there is something wrong with it. For this reason we always 'hold' a few articles so that we can immediately offer you a new product.

Is someone walking through an IKEA store with the product you want in their shopping cart? As long as this item has not yet been paid for at the checkout, you can order the same product online from this store to have it delivered at home. To prevent you from missing out on the last product in stock, we maintain a safety margin.

Keep an eye on the stock of the product. Will there be plenty of stock at a later time? Then you can always place an order online!
