Zero-emission IKEA deliveries

At IKEA, we are committed to reducing carbon emissions at all stages of our value chain. That’s why the Ingka Group, the largest IKEA franchisee, has set itself the target of using electric vehicles or other zero-emission IKEA solutions to make more than 90%* of global deliveries by 2028.

* We originally announced the target of 100% zero-emission home deliveries by 2025. However, in the spring of 2025, this target was adjusted to reflect real-world constraints, including limited charging infrastructure, bottlenecks in the supply of electric vehicles and delivery challenges in remote and mountainous areas.

Zero-emission vehicles

As delivery vehicles contribute to air pollution and noise pollution, IKEA Switzerland is committed to making over 90% of its home deliveries using zero-emission vehicles. When we talk about zero-emission vehicles, we are specifically referring to emissions from the tank to the wheel. At IKEA, this means that we only consider the CO2 emissions generated during the operation of the vehicle, starting with the fuel in the tank and ending with the vehicle’s exhaust. The emissions associated with fuel production and distribution are not taken into account in this context.

The zero-emission strategy at IKEA

Our plan to make more than 90% of home deliveries in Switzerland using zero-emission vehicles includes the following:

Targets

We have set ourselves clear and achievable targets to reduce CO2 emissions within our delivery fleet.

Localisations

We identify and adopt technologies and fuels that are suitable for the IKEA Switzerland infrastructure.

Collaboration

Working closely with our partners Sieber Solutions, REAN, Duperrex, Burri, Krummen Kerzers, Planzer and Schweizerische Post, we want to create a suitable environment for zero-emission logistics.

Reporting

We continuously measure and report on our progress in a transparent manner to ensure accountability.

Reaching our IKEA emission reduction goals

The Ingka Group is already making significant progress towards the target of achieving more than 90% zero-emission deliveries by 2028:

  • Since we started the transition to zero-emission deliveries at IKEA in 2017, we have been able to double our fleet of electric vehicles worldwide every year, with the exception of the 2022 financial year.
  • As of May 2025, we have achieved 41% zero-emission deliveries in Switzerland, with a fleet of 80 electric vehicles.
