What are Silent Hours at IKEA?

Silent Hours are a dedicated time in our stores when we intentionally reduce sensory stimuli to create a calmer shopping experience.

The initiative starts on 21 April in all IKEA stores in Switzerland.
Silent Hours take place every Tuesday from 15:00 until 30 minutes before closing time in all IKEA stores in Switzerland.
During Silent Hours:
  • music is turned off
  • announcements are limited to emergencies
  • operational noise is reduced where possible
  • relaxation areas are available in the store
  • a quieter seating area is available in the restaurant
Silent Hours are especially helpful for people with sensory sensitivities, for example those with autism, ADHD, anxiety or migraines. At the same time, everyone who prefers a calmer shopping environment is welcome.
Do you need support?
Our co-workers are happy to help. Feel free to approach us if you need assistance or are looking for a quieter area.
With Silent Hours, we aim to make our stores more accessible and inclusive for many people.
You can find more information on the calmer shopping experience for everyone on our Silent Hours page.
