What are pegboards?

Pegboards are perforated wall panels that started life in the workshop. The idea: you slot hooks, holders and containers into the evenly spaced holes, with no tools needed. The result is a flexible wall panel that can be reorganised at any time. Alongside pegboards, magnetic boards and pinboards can work just as well for wall organisation.

What material should my tool board or pegboard be made from?

One of the most popular materials for pegboards is metal. Metal tool boards are especially robust, carry heavy tools without any trouble and are sturdier than wooden versions. Can I put up my pegboard or tool board without drilling?

As a rule, wall mounting with screws and wall plugs is the way to go. That way your perforated panel can hold heavier items safely. For very light applications – pens and notes in a home office, for instance – strong adhesive strips or hooks can work as an alternative. The load-bearing capacity is limited, though. If you'd rather not drill at all, freestanding versions offer a flexible solution. These can be placed anywhere in the room and moved around whenever you need.

Do I need to leave a gap between my pegboard and the wall?

Yes, a small gap is important. The accessories – hooks, holders and containers – need to reach into the holes from behind. Typically, a gap of around 0.5 to 3 cm is needed. The good news: our mounting sets already include suitable spacers, so you don't need to think about the wall gap at all. Mounting is quick and straightforward, and the gap between the wall and the panel is discreet and barely visible.

What should I put on my tool board?

That depends entirely on what you're using it for. On a classic workshop wall, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers and saws all find their place. Small containers keep screws, nails, wall plugs and other small parts neatly organised. Special holders keep heavy tools firmly in place.
