Carafes and jugs for water and more: serve drinks with style
Our drinks bottles work for so many occasions. Glass bottles are a step up from plastic, and look the part at a simple lunch or a smarter dinner. Carafes, whether for a fine wine or simply for water, do more than pour. They also make lovely table decor. A glass carafe with a lid keeps drinks fresher for longer (and stops insects getting in), while swing-top bottles are just waiting to be filled with your own creations. Special bottles and jugs with a tap are perfect for parties, so everyone can pour what they fancy. Keen to quench your thirst in style? Have a browse through our range.
Key features and benefits of our carafes (depending on the model):
- A range of sizes: capacities from 1 to 5 litres for every occasion, from a quiet breakfast for one to a big garden party.
- Plenty of designs: from classic clear glass to patterned versions, pick the one that fits your interior style and personal taste.
- Practical seals: swing-top bottles and carafes with cork stoppers or lids keep homemade juices and spritzers sealed tight.
- Easy to clean: our jugs and carafes are usually dishwasher-safe and always easy to look after, saving you time day to day and keeping everything hygienic.
- A sustainable choice: long-lasting glass carafes are a more sustainable alternative to plastic.
- Glass water carafes: glass bottles don't affect the taste and are hygienic – ideal for flavoured water with fruit, herbs or cucumber.
- Decanting carafes: their wide shape is made for aerating red wine – the wide shape gives the aromas space to develop.
Whether it's a refreshing glass of water with lemon or a fine drop in the evening, find the right carafe, jug or bottle for your favourite drinks. Settle in with friends or a good book, on the outdoor sofa or in your favourite armchair, and remember to keep drinking. By the way, alongside our jugs and bottles, you'll also find practical and stylish coasters here, along with reusable water bottles to take with you and tasty Swedish drinks to fill them with. And if you're after glasses and mugs too, we can help there as well.
How do I tell the difference between a pitcher and a carafe?
Water pitchers typically have a handle and a rounded shape – they have a more traditional look and are usually used for serving water or milk. A carafe, by contrast, tends to be slimmer, more elegant and often comes without a handle. That look is more modern, often fits a minimalist Scandi style and suits all sorts of drinks. In everyday use, the two terms are often treated as the same thing. Jugs, like pitchers, almost always have a handle, and they also have a spout for easy pouring. So you can serve the drink of your choice with style in any of the three.
What's the difference between a decanter and a carafe?
A decanter is made specifically for wine: its wide base gives the wine room to breathe, so the aromas can develop to the full. A modern decanting carafe combines design and function elegantly, so you can use it for bold red wines as well as water and juices. Give it a try at your next dinner and taste the difference for yourself.
How long does water keep in my carafe?
In an open glass carafe, water stays fresh for around a day – after that, dust and smells can affect the taste. A carafe with a lid helps it keep for longer. If you store the glass jug in the fridge, the water can stay fresh for up to two or three days. For the best freshness, though, it's worth refilling your water carafe daily and giving it a thorough clean regularly.
Can I pour boiling water into my glass carafe?
That depends on the type of glass your carafe or jug is made of. Most glass carafes aren't designed for hot liquids, but a few special swing-top bottles or jugs can be filled with liquids up to 70 degrees. Before you pour any hot drinks into your serveware, please always read the product and material descriptions. One tip: warm the glass carafe with lukewarm water first and don't place it on a cold surface, so the temperature change isn't too sudden. For tea, coffee and the like, you'll find vacuum flasks and mugs here that keep hot drinks warm for longer.
How do I descale my water jug?
Limescale in jugs and glass carafes lifts easily with everyday household items. Mix vinegar or citric acid with warm water and let the solution sit for 30 to 60 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and your water carafe should be sparkling again. Or you can try the denture-cleaning tablet trick, which should shift limescale residue reliably too.
What is a wine carafe for, and when do I use one?
A decanting carafe is mainly there to let the wine breathe: it's the contact with oxygen that allows the aromas to develop fully. With older wines, decanting also separates the sediment from the clear wine. A decanting carafe helps bring the wine to the right drinking temperature too. Young, tannin-rich red wines benefit especially from this treatment. An elegant carafe also looks lovely on the table – pair it with serving plates and trays for a stylish setting, and treat yourself to a little touch of luxury for those proper wind-down moments after a long day.
