Light filtering curtains enhance privacy without leaving you in the dark

You don’t have to shut yourself off from the outside world to enjoy enhanced privacy and comfort in your home. As their name implies, semi-sheer filter curtains softly filter the light that comes in through your window. This softening of the light allows you to enjoy whatever is on your agenda for the day—from cooking and cleaning, to reading and watching movies—without the blinding glare of unfiltered sunlight or artificial outdoor lighting shining in.

Filter curtains offer a happy medium of light

When choosing curtains and blinds for each room of your home, it’s important to consider how much light you want a room to receive. Semi-sheer curtains fall ‘in the middle’ of the spectrum, making them a popular choice that works well for everyday needs in most rooms.

IKEA curtains are available in the following light filtering levels:

• Sheer curtains: These let the most amount of light in and are often layered with additional window treatments.
• Light filtering curtains: A popular choice for most rooms in the home, these provide privacy and enhanced comfort while still letting ample light in.
• Room darkening curtains: A step up from filter curtains, these block most of the light entering a room without fully blocking it.
• Blackout curtains: These provide the highest level of light blocking we offer, and are a popular choice for bedrooms and media rooms. 

Also consider if you’ll be using other window coverings in addition to curtains. For example, some people prefer their light filtration at opposite ends of the spectrum throughout the day. They want ample light during the day when they’re active, but want to sleep in total darkness. If that sounds like you, consider outfitting your window with light blocking blinds for sound sleep, and white light filtering curtains for daytime use.
