Great BedMd Z.This is a great bed. The size is perfect for a medium-sized room. The sides, especially the headboard, have a premium wood finish.5

Daughters First ChoiceChadFirst IKEA purchase for me. All the Malm bed boxes fit in the back of a Mazda CX-9 loaner car with the rear seats folded down. Assembly was straight forward.
I did it solo... Just make some room. Takes a bit to put together but you save on the purchase price. Everything is pretty solid for the price. Lifting function to provide storage is excellent and hydraulics are truly primed. My only suggestion to IKEA is the following... Raise the price a little and include higher quality receivers and fasteners. The light aluminum is too soft and leans toward stripping and bending in the friction zone. With care it can be avoided. I'd just like the fastener mechanisms to be stronger than my wrist.
All in, happy with the purchase.5
If it endures, then 5 *Jorge M.This applies to the Malm $599 storage bed finished in white. It was delivered yesterday. Took me almost 3 hours to assemble. Looks great and it is easy to operate. Time will tell on the lift mechanism and bed material. There were 2 errors on the instruction manual. Page 4 depiction of item 124584 shows a full thread bolt, it is partly threaded. Page 28 shows the assembly of bolts and nuts with the respective tools to be used. The tools are reversed, that is, the L shaped tool fits in item 110440 and the S shaped tool fits in item 105107.4
Love itStephanie M.I have had this bed frame for 4 years now. The storage underneath and how easy it is to access it was what sold me. I keep all my shoes and hand bags underneath as well as seasonal
Blankets. Easy to pull up and find what you need quickly5
Storage BedJaniceI love it 🥰 I wish it came in King Size!5
Pet OwnerBob T.I know people will appreciate the questions I had before buying.
1. Will the pet hair get in the storage area?
Yes, I have a cat and the fluff gets in. Mostly up by the headboard, in the corners. The base is covered pretty good by the sheets and comforter. My matress is like an inch or two narrower than my older queen, so a wider queen might keep it out better. It's easy enough to raise the platform and vacuum whatever gets in there out.
2. Is there a floor in the storage area, or is it just the floor surface of the room?
It's just a drop in that consists of three panels that are about as thick as cardboard, but much more ridged.
The only other things I'll say is It's taller, and my cat needs steps to get on the bed now (he's old and fat). It looks great, matches the dressers I bought like 10 years ago perfectly. I put it together in 2 or 3 hours using a drill where applicable. You'll hit your toe on it a few times for sure, until you appreciate it more.5
Beautiful and spaciousPrudencia K.I recently bought this bed for the extra storage space, and it came in handy, it’s so spacious and steady, it’s took a minute to put it together but it was worth it..I love this bed5
Very glad I patiently waitedPatriciaVery glad I patiently waited for the IKEA MALM White Storage Bed, 704.048.18, to be available for purchase. As a City apartment dweller, extra storage is a necessity.
Thank you Ikea!5

Great bed frame!AnonymousYou will want a low profile mattress for this. Mine is a little thick, but still it looks great. Love the hydraulic system. Tons of storage underneath! Took us forever to put it together, but we did! Love this bed!5
It would be better ifPaulIt would be better if the illustration has little more details in direction view.5
Great bedShellyThe mattress is easy to lift with the hydraulics. I love the way it looks. Assembly wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be but it is time consuming. Order a pizza, put on your comfy pants and enjoy the build.5

TornGladysI was apprehensive to purchase such an expensive item to me because of the fear of quality and assembly. After reading reviews and watching a couple of assembly videos on youtube I decided to take the plunge. Well after spending several hours I putting the bed together, one of the hydrolic lifts isn't working properly. The lift got bent or something because now everytime I lift the bed, the fan thing gets stuck and makes a cracking noise and I am afraid that over the thing might break. There is no possibility that I am taking this bed apart to return, it would take double the work for no real compensation because I really want this bed I just need the hydrolic to work properly.3
exactly what I neededMalariWas a challenging build but has been exactly what I needed for my small bedroom. Great for rooms that really require a bed go in the corner of the room as it allows easier access to all the space underneath rather than just the exposed half.5
I wish the bottom ofLEENAI wish the bottom of the storage was more than three thin boards. They are lying on the floor without any connection to the main frame of the bed. I do however like the quality of the bed frame.4
Our take on wood
Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.
Forests are critical for life on earth
Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.
100% wood from more sustainable sources
At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.
IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030
As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.
We accomplish more by working together
For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.
What is veneer?
A veneer is a thin wooden sheet attached to things like particleboard to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak, and beech, and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life.
Extra storage that won't take up extra space
MALM storage bed lets you turn the space you already use for sleeping into a smart place for storing. The gas piston and spring system make it easy and safe to open and close the bed without putting strain on your back. And that means you don't have to be super strong to get some super storage.
