Can I rent a trailer at IKEA?

Certainly. You can rent a trailer from Freetrailer at all of our stores. (First three hours for free!)

How does it work?

Booking & pick-up

  1. Book your trailer in the Freetrailer app
You can reserve a trailer in advance, or rent one on the spot if available using the Freetrailer app.
  2. Find the trailer
You can find the trailers inside the designated Freetrailer area outside the IKEA store.
  3. Unlock the trailer
The Freetrailer app unlocks the trailer via Bluetooth. Open the app, select your trailer and tap the button to open the electronic lock. During the rental period, you can temporarily lock the trailer whenever you like, without ending your rental.

Returning the trailer

  1. Return
Return the trailer to the same IKEA store it was picked up from.
  2. Park
Return the trailer to the designated Freetrailer area.
  3. End rental period
You do this using the app. Please make sure the trailer is properly locked.
  4. Confirm
Confirm that you've returned the trailer in the app to finalise the process.

Your payment will be processed automatically at the end of your rental period. The price is based on your rental time and any extra options you've selected.

How much does it cost?

The first three hours are free. After those, you'll pay €5.- for every extra started hour, with a maximum of €29.- per 24 hours.

Optional:

  • Reservation costs €5.- Making a reservation ensures availability, but it is not mandatory.
  • Insurance against damage to the trailer, €7.- per rental period (expires after 24 hours).

There is no deposit required and your payment will be processed automatically at the end of the rental period, via the payment method that was registered in the Freetrailer-app.

What are the requirements to be able to rent a trailer?

  • You are at least 18 years of age
  • You have a car driving license that is valid in the Netherlands
  • The car must have a tow bar that is legally allowed to pull the total weight of your trailer..
  • You have a phone or tablet with the Freetrailer app on it, and Bluetooth to open or close the trailer lock with.

You won't need a second license plate. The trailer has its own..
