Bedroom colours according to science

Studies show that colours affect people’s moods and mindsets. Here are some ways to put the theories into practice. Maybe they won’t help you sleep better, but you’ll get plenty of colourful ideas for your bedroom.

A green cocoon of calm

Green tends to make you feel calm. See if it can help coming to rest at bedtime (if not for you, then maybe overly energetic family members near you). For full effect – or just for the look of it – let a canopy of green textiles envelope the entire bed.

Connecting to nature with earth colours

Natural earthy tones are soothing and inviting, adding a homely feel to your bedroom. They also make a connection between inside and out, bringing the feel of nature into your space – even if you’re in the middle of the city.

The creative comfort of blue

Cheering up with yellow

Why not try brightening up your bedroom with joyful tones of yellow? You could go for a full effect, or add yellow accents with textile products, wall paint or furniture. Waking up to yellow can give you confidence and optimism – always a good start to your day.

Warm muted reds

Muted reds may be a bit closer to brown tones but they still have the ability to bring energy and warmth to your bedroom – useful on cold mornings. Using bed linen and wall paint to create inspiring blocks of colour can help you feel upbeat in the morning and evening.

Fresh all white

An all white bedroom is a bold choice, creating space and light as well as a feeling of freshness. This room has different shapes and textures to add interest and style details. Worried that an all-white room might mean you wake up early? You can add block-out curtains or blinds to keep daylight at bay.
