DIY: How to upcycle a simple glass vase into a personal and stylish gift

Are you bored with your old vases? Instead of getting rid of them, give them another chance with the help of this upcycling trend. With this DIY and a little paint, you can transform your old-fashioned or not-so-good-looking vases into chic designer pieces with a pretty terracotta look. Why not give this DIY a try? It's also a great gift idea for those of your loved ones who are into vintage or designer accessories or just like to decorate their homes.

What you need:

  • Old glass vase
  • Acrylic paint
  • Baking powder
  • Brush
  • Alternative to acrylic paint: Chalk paint (also available as a spray)
  • Modelling clay

Step 1
Roll out the modelling clay into a roll about 2 cm thick and shape your chosen motif.

Step 2
Then press the shape onto the vase and allow the modelling clay to harden. Depending on the modelling clay you use, it may need to be placed in the oven or left to harden in the air.

Step 3

For the ceramic look, mix 3 parts acrylic paint with one part baking powder or baking soda. Alternatively, you can buy ready-made chalk paint in the shop.

Step 4

In a final step, paint or spray the vase with the finished chalk paint and let it dry. You may have to repeat this step 2-3 times.

Enjoy your gift-giving!
