Silent Hours - A calmer shopping experience for everyone

At IKEA Switzerland, we want everyone to feel comfortable when visiting our stores. That’s why we are introducing Silent Hours – a weekly time slot designed to offer a calmer and more predictable shopping experience.

Hours:

Every Tuesday from 15:00 until 30 minutes before store closing.

During this time, we intentionally reduce noise to support customers who prefer a more peaceful environment. In addition to reduced noise, we are implementing relaxation rooms where customers can withdraw, find calm, and recharge their energy.
This includes people who experience sensory sensitivities, elderly customers, and anyone who simply enjoys a calmer moment while shopping.

What changes during Silent Hours?

During Silent Hours, our stores will:

  • Turn off background music
  • Limit announcements to essential safety messages only
  • Reduce operational noise where possible
  • Provide designated relaxation areas where visitors can pause and rest
  • Offer a quiet seating area in the restaurant
  • Offer emergency articles as sunglasses and earplugs

These adjustments help create a more comfortable and predictable atmosphere — while keeping the full IKEA shopping experience available.
