What are the easiest houseplants to care for?

Easy-care houseplants can handle the occasional missed watering. Snake plants, ZZ plants and spider plants are among the most forgiving. They need little water, manage with low light and make great office plants too. Cacti and similar plants like aloe vera also get by with minimal attention – and they look great in a bathroom, on a desk or on a bedside table.

Which plants are suitable for dark corners?

For spots with little light, houseplants like peace lilies, cast iron plants or trailing plants like pothos are a great fit. These plants have adapted to shadier conditions and do well away from the window. In very dark rooms with no natural light, artificial plants and flowers are a low-maintenance alternative that still bring a touch of green.

Which plants stay on the balcony all year round and which don't?

Hardy balcony plants like box, lavender or ornamental grasses hold up even in cold temperatures. In frost-resistant planters or a sturdy flower box, they usually come through the winter months without any trouble. A sheltered spot and the occasional watering on frost-free days are important. Tropical houseplants like orchids or calathea are better kept indoors, where they find the consistent conditions they prefer.

What size should an outer pot be for a houseplant?

An outer pot should be around two to three centimetres larger than the inner pot. That leaves enough room for air circulation and any excess water. Plant pots that are too small can crowd the roots, while ones that are too large will leave the inner pot wobbly. For self-watering pots, check the product information for the right fit.

What plant pots do I need for outdoors?

For outdoor use, frost-resistant and UV-stable materials like terracotta, stoneware or treated wood work best. Planters and flower boxes should have drainage holes so rainwater can run off. Larger plant pots give garden plants enough room for strong root growth. A matching watering can makes regular watering that much easier.
