    Spring mattresses

They distribute body weight evenly across the mattress and eliminate pressure concentration on any one part of the body. The open spring construction also allows air to circulate through the mattress, so you don't get too hot while sleeping. Spring mattresses are available in the following firmnesses:

    What mattress firmness to choose?

It all depends on your sleeping position. If you sleep on your back or side, we recommend a firm or extra firm mattres. If you sleep on your stomach, a medium firm mattress.

    Foam mattresses

Soft and flexible, foam mattresses are supportive by adapting to the contours of your body and distributing your weight evenly. As no extra pressure is placed on any one part of your body, blood circulation is easy.

Foam mattresses are available in the following firmnesses:

Affordable mattresses in an array of types and sizes

We sleep for one-third of our lives, which means we spend roughly one-third of our life on different kinds of mattresses. Needless to say – a mattress matters!

IKEA offers dozens of mattresses for the whole family including cot mattresses, single mattresses, double mattresses, queen mattresses and king mattresses.

In addition to producing high-quality affordable mattresses in all the most popular sizes, we also made sure to offer a stellar selection across the three primary mattress types — spring mattresses, memory foam mattresses and latex mattresses.

Understanding the different mattress types will help you choose one which suits your sleep perfectly.

    Why Your Mattress Matters

Your mattress significantly impacts sleep quality, affecting:

    • Spinal alignment and posture
    • Body support and comfort
    • Weight distribution

Signs you might need a new mattress:

    • Persistent pain or discomfort
    • Consistently poor sleep quality

At IKEA, we offer a range of mattresses designed to enhance your sleep. Investing in the right mattress means investing in your well-being. Explore our selection to find the perfect match for your needs and sleep preferences.

What are the different mattress types at IKEA?

At IKEA, mattress selection has never been easier. You'll find the most popular mattress types and mattress toppers for your sleeping style, size, and comfort preferences. Do you prefer a broad and firm mattress that feels great to stretch out on, or a soft mattress that you can sink into like a dream? One mattress feels like sleeping on a field beneath the stars, another feels like resting on a cloud. The point being – everyone prefers a different kind of mattress.

Choosing a mattress requires you to consider the softness or firmness you prefer, but also what size feels most comfortable, and whether there’s a particular material that helps you sleep well. If you find yourself often waking up with aches or pains, chances are you need a different kind of mattress entirely.

Memory foam mattresses cradle and support

Foam and latex mattresses mould to the shape of your body and distribute your weight evenly. These mattresses provide support for your whole body without putting extra pressure on any specific body parts. They are also silent (no creaky springs!) and absorb the shock of movement. This makes foam and latex mattresses a great choice if you have a partner who tosses and turns in their sleep.

Spring mattresses offer classic support and bounce

Our spring mattresses also distribute your weight evenly, so that there’s no extra pressure on any one part of your body. A key difference to the foam and latex mattresses, however, is that the open spring construction helps air flow through the mattress. This supports the ventilation in the mattress and can help you keep cool while you sleep. For some, it may give the mattress a fresher, airier feeling.

How long does a mattress last?

Like a good Swedish meatball recipe, a quality mattress should last you 7-10 years. But just as we evolve our furniture designs, your mattress needs can change too.

Keep an eye out for saggy spots or that "I've-slept-on-a-park-bench" feeling - that's your cue to say "hej då" (goodbye) to your old mattress and "välkommen" to a new one!

Deciding which mattress is best for your body?

Finding your perfect mattress is like finding the right dance partner - it's all about the right moves and personal style. Side sleepers might prefer a softer mattress that hugs their curves, while back and stomach sleepers often fancy a firmer one.

At IKEA, we've got some fantastic mattress options, so you're sure to find your perfect match.

What mattress is good for back pain?

While we can't promise miracles (we're furniture experts, not magicians), many people find medium-firm mattresses comfortable for various sleep styles.

At IKEA, we've designed mattresses with support in mind, aiming to help you wake up feeling as fresh as our cinnamon rolls. Why not give one a try? Your back might just thank you!
