3 steps to create a photo wall in the living room

A photo wall is a great way to add more atmosphere to a room and make a space more personal. But how do you start a photo wall? Follow these three simple steps and create your own photo wall.

Step 1: determine your style

Choose what style or theme you want for your photo wall. This can vary from colour themes to family photos and from travelling to nature or (abstract) art. Choose something personal and find a theme that matches your interior style. Discover different interior styles and find one that suits you.

Step 2: collect images

Select images you want to use. Choose personal photos or posters that suit you. If you don't want a personal photo wall, it's also nice to use posters. See which posters match your interior and select the ones that appeal to you. Ensure a good mix of horizontal and vertical photos and choose images of different sizes. Do you want bold, colourful images or do you prefer black and white? Or a mix of both? It's your photo wall, so you decide.

Step 3: choose picture frames

Once you have gathered all the images, it's time to frame the photos or posters. Choose picture frames that match your interior and the theme of your photo wall. At IKEA, we have various types of photo frames: with passe-partout or without. Fill your wall with small photo frames of 10x15 cm and large photo frames of 50x70 cm for a playful effect. Mix different colours of photo frames or stick to one colour to create a cohesive look. And that's how you create a photo wall in three simple steps.
