1. FAKTUM versus METOD
Does your kitchen look like it might be from IKEA, but you’re not sure whether it’s a FAKTUM or METOD kitchen? It’s important to check this first, because parts from FAKTUM and METOD are not compatible.
What’s the difference between FAKTUM and METOD
FAKTUM was discontinued in 2013 and replaced by METOD. The dimensions of the components differ between the two systems
The inside of the cabinets
An easy way to spot the difference is by looking at the holes in the cabinet sides. FAKTUM cabinets have a single row of holes along the edge, while METOD cabinets have two rows.
FAKTUM or METOD?
- Plinths: METOD 8 cm, FAKTUM 16 cm
- Cabinet widths: METOD rounded (20–80 cm), FAKTUM not rounded (19.8–79.8 cm)
- Cabinet heights: METOD rounded (40–220 cm), FAKTUM not rounded (34.8–217.2 cm)
- Number of drawers: METOD 1–8 (white), FAKTUM 1–5 (silver‑coloured)
Tip: If you have FAKTUM, you can’t use METOD fronts or plinths. If you have METOD, you can customise everything and give your kitchen a fresh new look.

- Extra shelves or upper cabinets
- Serving trolley
Now you know what you truly need. Time to optimise your METOD kitchen!
Step 2: Make the most of the kitchen you already have
If you have a METOD kitchen, you can—just as mentioned earlier—adjust the structure before you start refreshing or renovating your kitchen.
1. Adjusting your base cabinets
With METOD cabinets, you can easily modify the setup.
Adapt your base cabinets to your new needs with ease. Thanks to our shelves and drawers — which fit into all METOD cabinets — you can reorganise the inside of your cabinets effortlessly
A cabinet can have one or several doors, drawers, or shelves.
2. Adjusting your wall cabinets
Just like with the base cabinets, you can optimise your METOD wall cabinets by adding shelves and drawers to the cabinets that support them.
If you have the space, this is the perfect moment to add extra wall cabinets for more storage. You can also choose to install open wall cabinets.
You can place your appliances (microwave, extractor hood, etc.) inside your wall cabinets. Always make sure the dimensions are compatible.
3. Adjusting your work zones
Renovating a kitchen is also the perfect moment to rethink your layout, especially the placement of your work zones. As mentioned earlier, there are three main zones: the storage zone, the cleaning zone, and the cooking zone.
If you need to adjust your work zones, you can add, remove, or reposition your METOD cabinets.
