What does an IKEA kitchen planning appointment look like?

This guide explains the chronological steps of your kitchen planning journey, from initial thoughts to final plan.

  1. Before you book: To get the most out of your appointment, we recommend preparing first. Get inspired by browsing our kitchen styles online and, most importantly, measure your kitchen space. Accurate measurements are the crucial first step for a successful plan.
  2. To book your appointment: Once you are prepared, you can download the kitchen installation service books.
  3. Receive confirmation of your appointment: You will receive a confirmation of your chosen appointment by email with further instructions on how to prepare for your appointment. The instructions differ depending on where and when the appointment takes place.
  4. Rescheduling or cancelling: We understand that plans can change. If you want to reschedule or cancel, try to do so at least 24 hours in advance by using the 'reschedule' or 'cancel' button that you can find in the email confirmation. If you can't find this button in the email, you can reschedule or cancel the appointment by contact us. If you prefer, you can also convert your in-store reservation to a virtual online session by informing the specialist who will contact you before your appointment.
  5. Preparing for your appointment: Please bring your kitchen measurements, any inspiring ideas or images you've collected, and your list of kitchen dreams and challenges. If you've already started a design in the IKEA kitchen planner, have your plan number or login details ready so we can access them quickly and easily.
  6. During your appointment: An IKEA kitchen specialist will:
a. Review your measurements and discuss your needs to make sure the plan is functional.
b. Work with you to create or refine your kitchen design using the IKEA Kitchen Planner.
c. Help you choose products, including appliances and custom worktops, that fit your style and budget.
Please note that we do not advise on structural changes to your space, such as removing walls or moving pipes, gas and electricity connections. We recommend discussing these changes with an expert.
  1. The result of your appointment: At the end of your session, you will receive a complete design package. This includes a 3D design of your new kitchen, a full product list, a kitchen quote, and a quote for our delivery and installation service. Your design will be saved to your IKEA account, so you can access it at any time. When you're done, we can also help you place the order right away, but we'd also like to give you some time to think about your purchase and schedule a follow-up appointment to place the order at a later time.
