Why is IKEA discontinuing the catalog?
After 70 great years, IKEA is closing the catalog chapter. Over time, the catalog has become a beloved IKEA icon, and we've had the opportunity to use it to reach and inspire people all over the world with home decor ideas and items. We have given this a lot of thought, as this is quite an emotional farewell for us.
The print IKEA catalog was first published in 1951, when Ingvar Kamprad just started his small but growing IKEA company.
But people shop differently these days, compared to when we started with the catalog. Online became very important, of course. That's why we're grabbing all digital chances, and that means stopping with the IKEA catalog too. In the past year IKEA Netherlands already tested with spreading the catalog on a much smaller scale.
