Here’s what you need to hang your curtain rod

Before you start installing your curtain rods and brackets, read our tips below on how to put together your BETYDLIG, RÄCKA & HUGAD curtain set.

1) Calculate the length of the curtain rod

  • To determine the length of the curtain rod, first measure the total width of the window.
  • Add at least 15 cm on each side to the window width. These extra centimetres ensure that the curtains fully cover the window and can be opened completely.

You can read how to calculate the length of the curtains here.

Extendable curtain rods

RÄCKA curtain rods are extendable, which is useful if you don’t have a standard window-frame size. RÄCKA curtain rods are available in the following sizes:

Tube thickness (diameter): 19 mm
Maximum load: 5 kg

HUGAD curtain rods are also extendable. They are available in the following sizes:

Tube thickness (diameter): 28 mm
Maximum load: 10 kg

2a) Ceiling mounting

Would you prefer not to drill into your plastered walls? Then mount your curtain rod on the ceiling instead. Both RÄCKA and HUGAD curtain rods are suitable for ceiling installation. With the BETYDLIG wall/ceiling bracket, you can mount your curtain rod on either the ceiling or the wall.

1. Choose your curtain rod colour

Select a RÄCKA or HUGAD rod in a colour that matches your interior and style.

2. Choose your ceiling bracket colour

Pick a colour of BETYDLIG brackets that suits your décor.

A handy guide for calculating how many brackets you need on the ceiling:

Rod up to 140 cm = 2 wall/ceiling brackets
Rod between 140–280 cm = 3 wall/ceiling brackets
Rod between 280–420 cm = 4 wall/ceiling brackets

3. Choose your accessories

You can hang your curtains by threading the rod through the loops of your curtain.

Curtain rings or curtain hooks

If you prefer to hang your curtains using curtain rings or hooks, don’t forget to purchase these separately. Have a look at the different colours of SYRLIG curtain rings (including clip and hook). Each pack contains 10 rings.

Finials

To give your curtain rod a neat finish, choose a finial. They come in various shapes and sizes. Buy one finial for each end of the rod.

2b) Wall mounting

Would you prefer not to drill holes in your ceiling? Then choose wall mounting. Both RÄCKA and HUGAD are suitable for wall installation. With the BETYDLIG wall/ceiling bracket, you can mount your curtain rod on either the ceiling or the wall.

1. Choose the type and colour of your curtain rod

You can choose between different colours of RÄCKA and HUGAD, or a combination of both.

2. Choose the number of curtain rods and wall brackets

If you opt for wall mounting, you can combine up to three layers of RÄCKA and HUGAD.

For 1 curtain‑rod layer, you need:

  • 1 curtain rod
  • at least 2 BETYDLIG wall/ceiling brackets (depending on the width)

For 2 curtain‑rod layers, you need:

  • 2 curtain rods
  • 1 curtain‑rod holder
  • at least 2 BETYDLIG wall/ceiling brackets (depending on the width)

For 3 curtain‑rod layers, you need:

  • 3 curtain rods
  • 2 curtain‑rod holders
  • at least 2 BETYDLIG wall/ceiling brackets (depending on the width)

A handy guide for calculating the number of brackets you need on your wall:

Rod up to 140 cm = 2 wall/ceiling brackets
Rod between 140–280 cm = 3 wall/ceiling brackets
Rod between 280–420 cm = 4 wall/ceiling brackets

Note: if you choose multiple layers of curtain rods, don’t forget to buy an extra curtain rod holder.
