VITBJÖRN is a low, robust piece of furniture. It has a drawer on castors on the bottom and storage behind sliding doors below the roof of the house. Both the drawer and the upper storage can be reached from two sides when VITBJÖRN is placed freestanding or with a short side against a wall. The inspiration for the sliding doors came from Charlie’s own childhood. “I loved the sliding lids on the ice cream freezer in the store, and how you pulled them to the side to get to the delicious ice creams.” With a divider in the centre of the upper storage it’s easier to keep the space in order – and more difficult for curious children to crawl in.

Storage for the playful
Keeping the children’s rooms tidy is often a challenge. One trick is to choose storage solutions that are easy and fun for children to use. The VITBJÖRN storage looks like a classic house on the outside, but inside there’s room for toys, clothes, and other things that need their designated places.
Storage furniture for children must be functional, stable and secure – safety is an area we never compromise on. But that doesn’t mean they have to look like a traditional chest of drawers or wardrobe. We’re always seeking new solutions that are both safe and playful, and VITBJÖRN became a classic house with a red roof. “It’s a shape that a child can easily recognise,” says designer Charlie Styrbjörn.
Inspiration from the ice cream freezer
The children’s own storage
If the drawer is pulled out completely, the space at the bottom can be turned into a toy car garage, a dinosaur world, or perhaps a secret hut. When play is over, the drawer is simply rolled back into place. “I hope that VITBJÖRN will inspire lots of play, but also make it easier for children to put away and take responsibility for their things. That it will be their very own storage.”
