[Seoul – Apr 26] Global home furnishing company IKEA launches ‘IKEA ART EVENT 2018’, a limited edition toy art collection. Under IKEA’s vision ‘to create a better everyday life for the many people’, IKEA launched IKEA ART EVENT projects every year starting from 2015 for people to enjoy art works not only at a galleries or museums, but also in their homes. For this year’s project, ’IKEA ART EVENT 2018,’ is produced under the theme of toy art.

The ’IKEA ART EVENT 2018’ is a limited edition collection made up of 8 crystal glass figurines co-created with 8 contemporary artists from around the world. To produce these handmade figurines, the artists collaborated with some of the most skilled glass masters from Målerås, the traditonal glass work city in Sweden.

The unique figurines representing each personality deliver designers’ views and messages including London-based artist and visual philosopher, James Jarvis’s V sign toy art and the first generation figure artist from Hong Kong, Michael Lau’s Soul Toy.

Visual philosopher James Jarvis, who worked with art glass for the first time said, “Drawing is the foundation for all my work, but this is exciting because it’s a different type of product,” and “I didn’t realize glassblowing is so human and such an organic process.”

Henrik Most, Creative Leader for the IKEA ART EVEVT project said, “for this art event project, we combined contemporary art with glass material and resulted with fun and creative artworks,” he added, “IKEA will continue to make its effort to help many people enjoying art at their homes more easily.”
