Raising interest in the importance of design and discovering the future of design talent

Marking its second anniversary, the ‘2020 Korea+Sweden Young Design Award (KSYDA)’ will be held with aims to discover and develop young Korean design talent. KSYDA, which is a unique collaboration between the Embassy of Sweden in Seoul, Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), and IKEA Korea.

KSYDA is held under a special theme every year based on three key values: innovation, sustainability, and a better future. This year’s special theme is ‘Live Green! Go Green! Act Green!’, which will unleash creative, conscious designs for people and the planet, and provide an opportunity for more people to realize the importance of sustainability and take part in creating a greater movement.

KSYDA is open to any Korean designer currently aged 34 and under. Applications will be accepted from August 3 to August 13, and applicants can submit their innovative design concepts or design images to the official KSYDA website (https://www.ksyda.com). All applications within the field of design and form, with the exception of food and music, will be accepted.

Winners will be selected by a jury committee consisting of 11 esteemed Korean and Swedish designers and opinion leaders of diverse backgrounds. The jury committee will base their selections on the following criteria: creativity, aesthetics, relevance and influence. Results will be announced on the official website in late September, with 20 finalists given the opportunity to exhibit their designs at the ‘Design Korea Festival 2020’ held in October. The three final winners will receive support to grow in the global arena, including a design trip to Sweden and various exhibition opportunities. Further details are available on the official KSYDA website.
