IKEA Korea launches a new sustainability campaign, “A Better World Starts at Home”
Annual global campaign towards becoming People and Planet Positive
“A Better World Starts at Home” is a part of IKEA’s global campaign aimed at offering people the opportunity to live a better life within the limits of the planet and to create a big impact on a more sustainable world. IKEA will inspire and enable the many people to fight climate change through their small, everyday actions and choices made at home.
As a part of this global initiative, from May 8 to June 11, IKEA Korea will be holding various on and offline events to actively promote ways for the many people to tackle climate change at home with simple, easy actions or by using affordable home furnishing products such as energy-efficient LED bulbs, reusable water bottles and plant-based foods that can help to protect the planet and save resources.
Moreover, both IKEA FAMILY members and co-workers will have a chance to participate in workshops organised by IKEA Korea and Seoul Upcycling Plaza (SUP), the world’s first upcycling business cultural experience space. The workshops will help build knowledge around the issue of waste and on how to reduce the use of plastic in everyday lives, as well as easy ways to sort and recycle waste. The workshops will be held at IKEA Gwangmyeong and Goyang, open for registration on the IKEA FAMILY website for all IKEA FAMILY members.
In partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF), IKEA Gwangmyeong and Goyang will set up an in-store fundraising booth in each store throughout the campaign period to increase public awareness around the importance of healthy oceans and to tackle the cause of threats to wildlife.
Customers can also participate in the social media event that will run for two weeks from May 16. Anyone can join by sharing an Instagram or Facebook post of a small everyday action that can lead to a climate-friendly impact, with a given hashtag. 100 participants will be selected to receive a gift set of IKEA’s climate hero products. More information on “A Better World Starts at Home” can be found on the IKEA Korea website.
IKEA Korea Managing Director André Schmidtgall said “We believe that a small, easy-to-follow action at home is the first step to creating a big impact for the future of our planet,” adding, “we will do our best to ensure that more of the many people understand the importance of climate action at home, and inspire them to join the valuable movement towards creating a healthier planet.”
Under its vision ‘to create a better everyday life for the many people,’ IKEA is committed to enabling people to live a sustainable life at home and creating a positive impact on people and planet. IKEA aims to use 100% renewable and recycled materials in the IKEA range by 2030, as 60% of IKEA's current range are made with renewable materials and 10% with recycled materials. Last year, IKEA Korea replaced all single-use plastic straws in its restaurants, bistros and cafes with biodegradable paper straws, and announced its commitment to phasing out all single-use plastic products from IKEA stores from January 2020 in an effort to become more circular and climate positive.
