IKEA Korea to launch ‘Buyback Friday’ promotion to inspire more sustainable living

Giving second life to IKEA furniture to become fully circular and climate positive.
Buyback Friday is IKEA’s global campaign to increase awareness on the environment and resource circulation, and encourage more meaningful consumption during ‘Black Friday’, the world’s biggest sale season.
Buyback Friday also aims to promote ‘Buy Back Service’, IKEA’s new service which enables customers to sell their IKEA furniture back for in-store credit, to prolong product life and promote more sustainable consumption. The Buyback Friday promotion will be held at all stores in IKEA Korea from November 24 to December 3, and all IKEA Family members who use the Buy Back Service during this period will receive double the buy back price for their gently-used IKEA furniture.
To use the Buy Back Service, customers can first check the estimate buy back price for their used IKEA furniture online through the Buy Back Service page on the IKEA Korea website. When customers bring their used IKEA furniture to the Exchange & Refund area at the nearest IKEA store, IKEA co-worker will make a final assessment of the product and confirm the final offer. The products which IKEA has bought back will then be re-sold to consumers seeking rational and sustainable consumption at a lower price, through the ‘AS-IS l Bargain Corner’ at all IKEA stores in Korea.
“At IKEA, we believe that small actions can bring about big changes, and we have prepared the Buyback Friday promotion to support our customers to live a better everyday life within the limits of our planet,” said Nicolas Johnsson, Country Commercial Manager at IKEA Korea. “Through the Buy Back Service, IKEA’s new innovative solution to be a more people and planet positive business, we hope to make sustainable living more accessible, and affordable for everyone.”

IKEA Korea has also opened ‘IKEA Lab’, a pop-up focusing on sustainability, in Seongsu-dong on November 5, as a part of IKEA Korea’s long-term aim to drive a sustainable home furnishing movement in Korea, inspiring the many Koreans to start living a better, more sustainable life at home and contribute to a healthier planet.
