IKEA Korea donates the turnover of limited collection of soft toys to support children’s right to play

The donation will be used to improve the play environment of Incheon Buheung Elementary School with the aim to create spaces for children to freely play. IKEA Korea co-workers will also actively participate in the preparation process with the students by taking part in design workshops in order to understand and reflect the children’s needs around play.
IKEA’s Soft Toy Drawing Competition is annual event held at IKEA stores worldwide as part of the ‘Let’s Play for Change’ campaign created by the IKEA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of IKEA Group. Through this campaign, IKEA strives to raise the awareness that every child has the right to play under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and to encourage people—children and adults alike—to play as much as possible.
The final winning drawings out of entries selected from all over the world are produced into SAGOSKATT, a limited collection of soft toys sold at IKEA stores globally. The turnover is donated to support vulnerable children to play and grow in a safe environment. In particular, IKEA Korea will enjoy the opportunity to launch the winning design as part of the SAGOSKATT collection for two consecutive years, as the entries from Korea have been selected as winning drawings in 2016 and 2017.
“We would like to thank our supporters for championing our project to bring remarkable changes in children’s lives by supporting their rights to play, learn and grow,” said IKEA Korea’s Country Retail Manager André Schmidtgall. “We are excited to see more children playing and developing in safe environment,” he added.
