[Seoul – May 24, 2016] Home furnishing company IKEA Korea held the IKEA Goyang store groundbreaking ceremony in Wonheung housing district, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korea.

Over 100 people including officials from both IKEA and Goyang city such as André Schmidtgall, IKEA Korea country retail manager, Cecilia Johansson, IKEA Goyang Store Manager and Sim Sang Jung, a member of the National Assembly, took part in the event.

The IKEA Goyang store will be the second IKEA store to open in Korea, following the opening of the IKEA Gwangmyeong store, and construction will be completed during the second half of 2017. It is believed that the construction of IKEA Goyang store will not only increase accessibility to an IKEA store for customers living in Goyang city as well as Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, but also stimulate the regional economy via the creation of around 550 new jobs and the expansion of the domestic home furnishing market.

André Schmidtgall, IKEA Korea country retail manager states, “I am pleased to see that the opening of the IKEA Goyang store is off to a smooth start with the groundbreaking ceremony. As a member of the local community, IKEA is happy to contribute to job creation and the vitalization of the local economy.”

I look forward to work together with new IKEA co-workers in Goyang to provide a happy and memorable experience for each customer that visits our store.”
