Clarification Notice from IKEA Korea regarding the recall of chest of drawers in North America.
Accidents related to furniture tipping over is a serious home safety issue for the entire home furnishing industry. IKEA is committed to continue to take a lead in addressing this challenge.
The best way to prevent tip over accidents is to secure furniture to the wall. IKEA chests of drawers are safe when anchored to the wall as per the assembly instruction using the tip over restraint provided with the product. To create safe homes, we have for decades provided tip over restraints with furniture that needs to be secured and wall attachment is part of the assembly instructions. We have no information of any tip over incidents with a properly anchored chest of drawer.
IKEA Korea urges all customers who has bought IKEA chests of drawers to inspect their products and to ensure that they are securely anchored to the wall according to assembly instructions. frequently asked questions.

This action affects children’s chest of drawers taller than 60cm and adult chest of drawers taller than 75cm. The action affects MALM chest of drawers that have been sold by IKEA Korea since opening Dec 2014 and these include the 3-drawer, 4-drawer, and 6-drawer models. Korean consumers can contact IKEA for a choice between three options:
• a free wall-anchoring repair kit from the website or contact IKEA at 1670-4532
• or a one-time free wall-anchoring service on already bought chest of drawers. Valid until 31st of December 2016.
• or a full refund. If you are not able to bring the product back to the store, IKEA can go to the customers’ home and take the products back to the store for free. Valid until 31st of December 2016.

If you are unable or unwilling to attach your chest or dresser to the wall using the repair kit, or if you are not comfortable that your chest or dresser has been properly attached to the wall, please contact IKEA at 1670-4532 or Customer support centre for further support.
