IKEA launches ‘Green Friday’, instead of ‘Black Friday’

[Seoul – November 10] Home furnishing retailer IKEA Korea will hold a “Green Friday” promotion to help material circulation and respond to climate change.
Green Friday is IKEA’s global campaign to show people that taking positive steps towards a more sustainable life can be affordable and convenient. According to a recent survey conducted by IKEA, 90% of respondents said they are willing to take action on climate change. In response, IKEA will launch IKEA’s unique Green Friday during Black Friday, which is one of the biggest shopping events.
The promotion will be held from November 16 to November 26 at all IKEA Korea stores (Gwangmyeong, Goyang, Giheung, and DongBusan) for IKEA Family members, IKEA's loyalty program. During the event, if a customer brings back their preloved IKEA products in return through IKEA’s Buy back service, a buy back offer of extra 50% will be provided. In addition, for all customers using the Buy back service, an additional coupon worth KRW 5,000 that can be used at the Swedish food market in IKEA Korea store will be provided when eating more than KRW 20,000 at the IKEA restaurant.
Customers who wish to participate in this promotion can receive a preliminary offer at the Buy back service page on the IKEA Korea website and then visit the Exchange & Refund area at the nearest IKEA store with the assembled product. The final buy back price is confirmed through IKEA’s assessment, and products that have undergone the buy back process are repaired and sold in the AS-IS area of each store.
“The Green Friday campaign, which can significantly reduce the carbon footprint by prolonging the life of IKEA products, is part of IKEA’s efforts to become a circular business and actively respond to climate change,” said Nicolas Johnsson, Country Commercial Manager at IKEA Korea. “We hope that through this promotion, the many will be able to practice sustainability to create a better future.”
Meanwhile, IKEA is making great efforts for sustainable management, responding to climate change, and resource circulation, such as participating as an official partner in the recent United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) with the goal of becoming a fully circular and climate positive business by 2030. IKEA Korea is also practicing sustainability through eco-friendly buildings that use renewable energy, Circular Hub, and Electric Home Delivery Service.
