IKEA Korea holds an Earth Day donation event to reduce the carbon footprint

[Seoul – April 20] Home furnishing retailer IKEA Korea holds a donation event in celebration of Earth Day on April 22, with the goal of encouraging sustainable living at home while reducing the carbon footprint.
This event is meant to encourage more people to implement easy practices into their daily lives that can help the planet. From April 21 to 22, IKEA Korea will donate KRW 1,000 per each LED light bulb sold through online and offline channels and per each pack of plant ball sold in the Sweden Food Market (SFM). All donations will go to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a non-profit environmental conservation organization.
LED bulbs consume up to 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last about ten times longer, saving energy and reducing environmental impact. Plant ball is meatballs made of plant-based protein and take up only 4% of the climate footprint of classic meatballs through the entire process of production and distribution. Plant ball retains the authentic taste and texture of meatballs, allowing the many to enjoy the original experience while implementing healthy and sustainable eating habits and making small changes for the environment.
“IKEA is leading the way in offering a variety of solutions to respond to climate change, with the ultimate goal of becoming a climate positive by 2030,” said Fredrik Johansson, IKEA Korea Country Retail Manager and Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO). ”We want to help more people join in the effort to create a healthier planet by offering sustainable products that can easily be used to implement climate-positive actions into everyday life.”
Meanwhile, IKEA has been making various efforts for a sustainable future under the ’People & Planet Positive Strategy.’ Ingka Group, which owns and oprates IKEA Korea, used renewable energy to power 76.1% of store operations in FY21. IKEA Korea is also reducing energy usage by introducing eco-friendly solutions such as solar panels to stores, and is making significant achievements across its business with the aim of converting 100% of furniture delivery vehicles into electric vehicles by 2025.
