What are the different kinds of ceiling light fixtures and fittings?
At IKEA, every lampshade comes with its own fitting, designed either to clip onto the base of the bulb holder or attach directly to the bulb itself. You’ll commonly find three types of fittings:
- Spider fitting – sits on and secures around the plastic housing of the bulb socket.
- Uno fitting – screws into the same housing as the bulb, also resting on top.
- Clip‑on fitting – gently grips the bulb itself for a minimalist fit.
Spider and Uno shades rest or screw into the lamp base’s plastic housing, while clip-on variants simply clip directly to the bulb.
Choosing the right fitting is essential:
- If your lamp has a plastic socket housing below the bulb, go for Spider or Uno.
- If not such as in some decorative or narrow styles clip‑on shades are the simplest option.
This ensures a safe, secure fit and a seamless look in line with IKEA’s design standards.
