I've never yelled at a lampshade beforeAnonymous reviewerThis is the most complicated, over-engineered product I've ever bought in my life. The instructions had me questioning my sanity. It was so fiddly to put together and after spending way too much time assembling a LAMP SHADE, I went to put it up & found it wasn't compatible with standard UK ceiling fittings. Utterly useless. A shame as when I saw it in the showroom it looked really nice. Should have read the reviews before buying!1
Beyond awfulAnonymous reviewerThis is a very wasteful item, completely awful and I’m shocked at Ikea, and also pretty angry.
You are supposed to assemble it in the air with the first ring on the light fitting, then attach 12 huge wires, some of which don’t fit properly into the ring. This can take half a hour or more with your arms in the air. Then once there you can’t change the light bulb. The idiocy in this design is astounding. How many of these just get binned? I would give zero if I could1
Doesn't fit UK light fittings, have to buy their fittings and they dont tell you that instore.Anonymous reviewerWe bought this lampshade yesterday. Upon building it (good luck with that by the way, brain surgery is less fiddly) we discovered it would not suspend from a normal UK light fitting. We went to B&Q this morning and bought a fitting adaptor which still didn't work. The middle part just falls to bits again and the spokes fall out. To get any use out of it at all we've had to take the middle out entirely and just suspend it using the adaptor. We looked on the IKEA website, turns out you have to buy and install one of their light fittings to get it to work. This is a bit of a con in my opinion it should fit standard generic UK fittings if it's sold in the UK. What we've got now is a "best of a bad job" look with it which is very disappointing.1
Tricky installationAnonymous reviewerWouldn’t leave a review usually but this is a crazy fiddly installation. Had to laugh at points. The instructions are not very clear, most steps I did incorrectly the first time then figured it out. The metal spokes don’t even fit into the wee holes properly. Getting the material over the cage was also a slippy situation. I’m good at building things usually. I’d say potentially avoid this one. I got it up, just hope the bulb doesn’t go anytime soon. Haha. 3
Insanely fiddly.Anonymous reviewerLooks good but almost impossible to put together. I ended up using impact adhesive to keep the metal struts in place. And impossible to put in a new light bulb without partly taking it to pieces.2
Lovely LightAnonymous reviewerBeautiful. A bit tricky to assemble. But worth it. 4
Pilot holesAnonymous reviewerThe pilot holes could do with being slightly larger to accommodate the metal structure easier.4
Almost thereAnonymous reviewerIt doesn't hang central for my pendant, which isn't an Ikea pendant. I suspect it wouldn't do that with an Ikea pendant. That said it is still a great lampshade, hence the 4 stars.4
Looks good Anonymous reviewerEasy to put together and to then take off the fabric to wash
Looks good 5
Lovely lampshade but only works with Fitting for E26/E27 cordsAnonymous reviewerWhy is it not written in the "good to know" part or in the description that this onky works if you have a E26/E27 lamp fitting? (Large screw type lamp).
I got it 2nd hand for £9, and i will return it myself2
Too fiddle to assemble Anonymous reviewerOpened the box and decided it’s not for me!
Will be returned 1
Very tricky, not worth itAnonymous reviewerHad to get an electrician to wire this to a standard UK light fitting. Shade very frustrating. Looks good once on but it really wasn’t worth the effort!2
Doesn’t tell you what components you need to get Anonymous reviewerThis needs to be completed with Hemma cord set (which stated on the website but not in store), so we went back to get the cords, then when we read the instruction after we got home we realised we also need a hook on the ceiling to hook on the cord set, so we had to make another journey to b&q. We do like the look of it but it’s also a real hassle to change the lightbulb. If we’d have known there’s this much trouble we’d have just gotten a basic universal one from b&q to be honest. 2
One for the charity shopAnonymous reviewerI bought this as the colour matched our decor but the light emitted was cold and gloomy. Awkward to put together and to replace a light bulb it has to be partially deconstructed.2
Returned this item, not designedAnonymous reviewerReturned this item, not designed for standard light fitting.1
Looks good but complicatedAnonymous reviewerThis is a fairly attractive lampshade but it's hard to recommend because it was so complicated to put it together. Most lampshades can be built then put onto the light fitting but this one has to be put together in place, which meant standing on a ladder to finish it off. Also, if you ever want to change the light bulb you have to take the whole thing apart!2
lampshadeAnonymous reviewerthis was the largest I could find.
It was slightly dangerous having to put cover on after it was fitted as this meant hanging over banister from steps.5
Bit disappointed that I hadAnonymous reviewerBit disappointed that I had to purchase a space reducing as English centre rose are not compatible with IKEA.2
