How to improve the quality of your sleep in summer

We believe in the power of sleep. Getting the right amount of quality shut-eye is vital if you’re to be at your best the following day. Sleep quality can be affected by lots of different things especially in the summer, but comfort, air, temperature and light are just the basics. Read on for our sleeping tips on how to sleep well during summer heat waves.

Cooling range

Cooling pads

The key for a good night’s sleep in the summer is a comfortable indoor temperature. The optimal sleeping temperature is 16 to 18⁰ celcius, so a room that’s too warm may prevent that essential deep sleep from happening. REXBEGONIA cooling pad is a smart and affordable solution which creates a cooling sensation, to help you relax, whilst also performing as a mattress or pillow protector.

Cooling textiles

Comfort and temperature control have a direct effect on the quality of sleep, so it is important to choose bedlinen according to personal sleeping preferences. Certain materials are better at keeping us cool than others. Textiles made from linen, cotton and lyocell are breathable, absorb moisture and help the body maintain a comfortable, even temperature.

Cool duvets

If you get hot and tend to wake up in a sweat even when the duvet’s only covering your feet, you need a thinner, cooler duvet with less filling. Particularly, duvets with TOG 2.5. TOG stands for ‘Thermal Overall Grade’, which is a unit of measurement used to calculate the thermal insulation of a product. Basically the higher the TOG, the warmer the product.

Blinds and lighting

Smart block out blinds can be raised or lowered on a s chedule, to block out the sun at the hottest part of the day and allow airflow at night. TREDANSEN smart block out blind has a cellular structure that creates an insulating effect, which helps to remove heat from the sun and it can be controlled with a remote control or through IKEA Home Smart.

With block-out blinds or curtains, you can make sure your much-needed sleep isn’t disturbed by moonlight or street lights, and that you can enjoy a lie-in without the sun waking you up. Also insulating blinds can help you to control the indoor temperature, while reducing energy consumption. As well as block-out curtains, you can also get room-darkening curtains that keep most of the light out.

Decorative lighting and mood lights have a calming effect. When placing a mood lamp, by the side of the bed or on a chest of drawers will work well. Choosing a soft diffused light, or light which casts shadows in the room, will help tomake a cosy atmosphere. Why not let an opal-white shade fill the room with its soft glow? Add a smart light bulb and adjust the brightness with a wireless dimmer.

Air purifiers

An air purifier that traps pollution, dust and pollen particles and ventilates the air — is a smart idea and STARVKIND air purifiers can be paired with VINDRIKTNING air quality sensor to monitor the indoor air quality.

Did you know that the air you breathe indoors can be more polluted than the air on the street outside? An air purifier makes it easy to improve your indoor air at a low cost. Learn more about how to use it and how it can improve air quality in your home.

Some plants not only purify the air but also create oxygen and reduceCO2 at night. And of course, few things make a bedroom come alive like the freshness of green. Bedroom plants with matching bed linen and details are a wonderful way to spruce things up.
