Broke after a month.Verified ReviewerTerrible. I loved it when I first got it, then within 2 weeks a plank snapped in half. Tried contacting Ikea - apparently they’re like your GP - don’t answer for hours. Then after a month, the entire thing snapped - metal gone & draws won’t go in. I’m now stuck with a bed I purchased for £500??? And ikea won’t help at all. Save yourself the money, get a better quality one1

Looks lovelyVerified ReviewerVery hard to assemble and stiff to pull out the bed, not as easy as we expected to pull out and put back In. It’s also very big but lots of storage underneath.4

Hemnes day bedVerified ReviewerBeen on our " to buy" list form many years. Very happy with this purchase. Order and delivery process was very smooth. Assembly a little fiddly and took longer than expected, pretty much one full day. Looks great and storage drawers very roomy. Has transformed our spare room.5
Good but have some ups n downsVerified ReviewerGood but have some ups n downs.4
Great bed for spare room.Verified ReviewerGreat bed for spare room. One slat was slightly damaged and there was a small mark on one drawer hence not 5 stars.4
Great option for bed and sofa in oneVerified ReviewerLooks great with lots of storage. Not too difficult to build. Quality parts that fit together well.5
I love it but it's awkwardVerified ReviewerWe bought this for my daughters room and it's a great bed, the sides make her feel secure but we can pull it out for sleepovers or to lay down together and read or just to give her more space. It is not a standard single bed size though which is both awesome as this is the first bed that has ever really accommodated my height, but it does make buying sheets awkward even amongst Ikea sheets. The worst thing about this bed though is: When we saw it in the shop the mattresses somehow laid neatly next to each other when pulled out and it was really comfy. Upon getting it home the mattresses separate OFTEN and the second one frequently ends up overhanging the ridges designed to keep it in which means you're laying on a slope. It's incredibly irritating and I've yet to find a solution to this problem.4
Would definitely recommend this bed.Verified ReviewerWould definitely recommend this bed. I love the way it looks and is perfect for sleepovers to. Looks really expensive and modern in my daughters room.5
Very good day bed !Verified ReviewerVery good bed overall apart from the installation it needs more explanations for some part unless you really know what your are doing.4

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is fibreboard?

Fibreboard is a stable and durable material made of leftover wood from the wood industry. A durable outer layer of paint or laminate is added to the board. The difference between various types of fibreboards, such as HDF and MDF, is mainly the thickness, yet also how impact-resistant they are. This determines if we will use them for bed frames, sofa frames, kitchen fronts, wardrobe doors, or something completely different.

Function solution

Sofa and bed in one

Living in a small space or need an extra bed sometimes? Then a day-bed can be a smart solution since you get two types of furniture in one - a sofa by day and bed by night. And since some of our day-beds also have drawers, you get a practical place to store anything from pillows and duvets to clothes and toys.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"Function and flexibility are high on the agenda where space is at a premium. That's why I designed HEMNES day-bed to fulfil four functions. A single bed, double bed, sofa and storage drawers solve four of the key needs in every home. The simple lines make sure it's at home in almost any setting. I've heard people say this is an all-round item of furniture - with room for all the family in the double bed and the cat in the pull-out drawer! That makes a designer like me feel that I've achieved my aim."
