Outdoor furniture maintenance guide

Few things make us feel as good as spending time outdoors does. Connecting with nature puts us in a good mood. Relax, chat, chill or have a drink out on the terrace, and make the most of it for a long time to come by taking care of your outdoor furniture with our recommendations. Just sit back and enjoy!

Easy-care material furniture

Aluminium, plastic, plastic rattan and steel don't need much maintenance, which is why they're perfect for outdoor furniture. You only need to clean them with gentle soap and water. Don't forget to cover them or store them in a cool, dry place in the winter, such as a garage, porch or basement (especially plastic and rattan plastic because they can crack in the cold).

Furniture made from material that needs a little extra care

Acacia, eucalyptus and other solid woods usually require a little bit of care from time to time. Clean your furniture with gentle soap and water, and cover them when not in use. All of our wooden outdoor furniture has been treated with stain or paint. We recommend re-staining to prevent cracks and make them last longer. How often you have to re-stain them depends on their location, use and how exposed they are to the elements. For example, outdoor furniture should be re-stained if rain drops start to be absorbed instead of sitting on the surface. If painted furniture starts to chip or look a bit run down, paint them again or touch them up with outdoor paint.

Care for parasols

Fold down the parasol when not in use. Normally, you only need to deep clean parasols once a year. Pay attention to the washing instructions on the label. Remember to protect them from dust, dirt, pollen and rain with the TOSTERÖ cover and store them indoors in a cool, dry place.

Care for gazebos

Remove the gazebo roof whenever there is strong wind or heavy rain. Clean the inside and outside regularly. Pay attention to the washing instructions on the label. Regularly re-stain the wooden gazebo frame to prevent cracks. A steel frame is easier to maintain because it only requires a mixture of gentle soap and water. Before storing in a cool, dry spot, clean the fabric and allow to fully dry. You can use a TOSTERÖ storage bag or box for the gazebo roof and sides.

Care for cushions

To extend the life of your outdoor cushions, clean regularly. Store them away when not in use, preferably in a cool, dry place indoors. You can use our TOSTERÖ storage bags and boxes for this. Make sure the cushions are completely dry before closing the bag or box.
