Decorate your balcony without spending a fortune

Want to create an outdoor oasis in your small balcony? Here are some simple and affordable ideas to add a personal and beautiful touch to your outdoor space.

Perfect chairs for small spaces

Look for comfortable outdoor chairs, add cushions and tie them on so they stay firmly in place. The patterns and colours add a livelier touch. To save space, keep folding chairs on tidied away.

One basket. Many uses.

The key is to make the most of your space, and that's where storage solutions come in. Put your favourite blankets and cushions into a basket. If you can, mix colours, textures and patterns. Enjoy your moment of relaxation.

The floor matters too

What's under your feet sets the feel of the balcony almost as much as the view. A flatwoven outdoor rug adds style, enhances a laidback atmosphere, can help define a zone and is easy to care for.

Plant power

Use leafy plants to create a natural environment. Matching pots put greenery in focus. Artificial wall and floor plants help to disguise less attractive corners — combine them in different shades and sizes to achieve spectacular results.

Lovely, unfussy light

Create a mood that’s just right by adding to the light your balcony gets from the sun, the moon or the city. Most outdoor lighting doesn’t need plugs or cables, so you can decorate however you want (or close to it, anyway).

  • Hang different sizes of outdoor pendant lamps overhead like little, luminous clouds.
  • Wrap outdoor LED lighting chains on rails or around sturdy plants.
  • Copy your indoor lighting approach with an outdoor table lamp or floor lamp (that doesn't need an electrical connection).
  • Put LED candles in lanterns for an atmosphere that's festive or romantic.
