This way, we could ask questions and listen to their reflections.”

Huge disappointment and waste of moneyHelenI bought this product as a birthday present for my 4 year old and thought it great at first but after just the first go drawing on the white side using the MALA pens that are supposed to accompany it, and it is nearly impossible to clean off. Some colours don’t erase at all even with wipes, soap and severe scrubbing. I’ve asked around and various other mums who bought it around the same time have the same problem. Other mums who bought it 1-2 years ago do not so I wonder if there was a change to the coating. Either way a complete waste of money and another unsustainable product that may as well be thrown away.

So, we rolled up our sleeves and tweaked several important details. After that, we asked some parents what they thought of the prototype. Their input helped us make the easel even smarter.
“Through the years, we’ve got some comments on the easel. For example, that the paper roll was difficult to roll up, and that it was complicated to fold up and store away the easel,” tells Jorge Omar Santoyo Henaine, who works with product development at Children’s IKEA.

But they thought it should be on both sides so two children can draw and paint at the same time. And one parent said: “My child spills and makes a mess, I want to be able to rinse the tray in the sink.” “It convinced us that it’s better if you can remove the trays. We want to make life simpler and more creative for both the children and their parents, and to succeed it’s crucial to involve them like we did that day in the store.”
