1. Solar-powered pendant lamps
The first thing you should remember when choosing your outdoor lighting is to think about the style and feel of the space. So, if you have classic decor and furniture, you should go for more neutral or white lighting; if you have a modern terrace or balcony, you can include more vibrant colours that fit this style.
In this picture, for example, we have a very contemporary balcony with a red bench. For the lighting, we went for our LED solar-powered pendant lamps in orange tones. By doing this, we achieved a sharp contrast that draws your eyes to that particular corner.
The lamps you see are specifically designed for outdoor use and are waterproof, but because they're solar, they're environmentally friendly and wallet friendly too!
Something else you should bear in mind before buying any kind of outdoor lighting is what you want it to do. Do you want it to be functional or purely decorative?
If you need to illuminate a table because you normally dine on the terrace or balcony, you need a large pendant lamp that you can hang over the table. If you just want to give the space a cosy feel, then a few string lights or an outdoor table lamp will suffice.
The setting in this image shows an outdoor kitchen and a table, so we need to have enough lighting for the whole area. To achieve this, we used several solar pendant lanterns and a beige solar pendant lamp in aluminium. Because the terrace is classic in style, the design and colour of this lamp give it a vintage feel in keeping with the decor of the space.
2. Outdoor lanterns and table lamps
Table lamps are better for smaller outdoor spaces, such as small balconies or terraces, because they don't give off as much light as pendant lamps.
If you have sofas with a coffee or side table, these are ideal spots to put them on. If they are small, another option is to group them together on the floor or make a trail of lights along your balcony.
The space in this image shows three table lamps reminiscent of the kerosene lamps of the olden days. Aside from bringing that sense of countryside and mountains to your garden, they are very easy to carry about and can even be hung on the wall.
A more budget-friendly option for soft, cosy lighting is LED candles.
You can put a few in tealight holders or lanterns, on the floor, on a table or take them with you wherever you go. They're also perfect on a table setting for a romantic dinner or special celebration. They're a safe option, especially if there are children at home, and ours also have a built-in timer to switch off after six hours of use.
3. Outdoor LED string lights
String lights are one of the most popular choices for decorating terraces and balconies. They can be really pretty and create a cosy yet festive ambience. Try hanging them from each end, putting them over a door, wall or on a railing!
They are affordable and, if you choose an option with LED lights, you will save more and create a more sustainable space. We love them! In our catalogue, you'll find a range of different colours, shapes and sizes, so you can find the one that best fits with your space.
