Ideas for decorating a balcony with grass
Wouldn't you like to give your balcony or terrace a natural and fresh touch? Discover how with this exterior decorating idea that's simple, affordable and attractive: artificial grass. Don't miss this tip!
The magic of artificial grass
What we like most about spring and nice weather is that we can use our balconies and terraces and enjoy spending as much time on them as possible. If you'd like to add a special touch this year to make your time in the fresh outdoor air as pleasant as possible, we recommend that you make it feel as natural as possible. There's nothing like an artificial grass floor to give it that magical touch.
Artificial grass is great for decorating small outdoor areas, such as balconies and terraces, without spending much money and without much difficulty. And it looks great, too! In this case, all you have to do is connect the tiles together according to the measurements of your space and combine them as you like best. You can use brown wood, patterned tiles or, as you can see here, just use grass for a uniform look.
One of the many advantages of using this product is that its tidy look is long lasting, since it has UV protection to withstand long periods of sun exposure without any colour fading. It's also easy to maintain, since it can be easily removed to clean both it and the floor underneath.
At IKEA, we're committed to more sustainable living, which is why this product was created using recycled polypropylene plastic. and once it's worn out, it can be recycled or used for energy recovery.
Decorate the walls on your terrace or balcony
We love the power of real plants, but for certain applications, and especially when our green fingers are a bit rusty, it may be better to opt for artificial plants, as they're both affordable and instantly improve any space.
Here, in order to improve the natural ambiance with the artificial grass we've installed on the ground, we've created a vertical garden to cover the wall space in lush greenery.
How did we do it? It's simple! We used some wall-mounted artificial plant panels, which can be connected together in a 'snap' to create a beautiful wall decoration as you can see in the image. Similar to the floor covering, these panels require very little maintenance (they can be cleaned with a damp cloth) and they last a long time, making them an ideal decorating solution.
The best part? They're a product we can truly be proud of—they're just as affordable, attractive and environmentally friendly as our artificial grass. The plants are made from 100% recycled polyester and the structure from recycled polypropylene. Who knew decorating your terrace could feel so good?
Add some natural plants
There's no avoiding it—natural plants deserve a spot on this well-kept balcony as well. There's just no substitute for the real thing! Natural plants provide a charming and cheerful touch and help us to liven up an outdoor space and give it a refreshing feeling (which is always welcome, particularly in summertime).
In order to decorate a smaller balcony or terrace with natural plants, you might opt for a few different solutions: large plant pots with a single, leafy plant; small plant pots fixed to the railing with a special support etc. No matter what combination you choose, we recommend that you bear in mind the type of plant or flower you pick. Try to choose plants that thrive in direct sunlight and don't mind high temperatures—that way they'll last all summer long.
Furniture and accessories that every terrace needs
Every outdoor space, no matter how small, needs a furniture set and accessories as a finishing touch to make it truly inviting and functional. For small balconies and terraces, there's nothing like a multifunctional and durable exterior furniture set. Have a closer look at the furniture on this balcony!
If you're the type of person that enjoys a nibble or two on the balcony or you have a small garden, an outdoor storage cabinet is a must-have for your day-to-day. It'll help you store everything you'll need: tablecloths, basic cutlery for al fresco lunches and dinners or tools and extra pots you'll need for your plants. Here, we've used a beige storage cabinet with an extra-useful wooden panel just behind it.
When it comes to lunches and dinners out on the balcony or terrace, there's nothing like a wheeled trolley to help you carry everything you'll need for a good feast. You won't need to make as many trips back and forth and you'll have everything at hand while hardly taking up any space. Similar to outdoor cabinets, the usefulness of this accessory is only limited by your imagination—just think of all the ways it can be of use.
Last, but certainly not least, we're always looking for intelligent solutions that can adapt to any situation and, in this case, that don't take up too much space. Here, foldable outdoor furniture like chairs and tables are a sure bet. These are the best option to make the most of the outdoor space on your balcony or terrace, and allow you to accommodate more guests if the occasion requires it.
