Four ways to decorate your Christmas dinner table for less than EUR 50
Can you decorate your Christmas dinner table without spending a fortune? Of course you can, and we'll show you exactly how to do it for less than EUR 50. Get inspired by these ideas from our IKEA ambassadors!
Decoration is an important part of Christmas. Everything is decked out in cheerful colours and twinkly lights, and every corner of our homes can be transformed into a magical place, even the dining room table. But because we know that this time of year is expensive, and this Christmas especially we want to be prudent and save as much as possible, we've given ourselves and our IKEA ambassadors the challenge of creating a low-cost Christmas table arrangement for under EUR 50. Want to see what we came up with? Enjoy delicious, elegant meals as usual, but with extra savings.
1. Rustic Christmas table
The first of our designs comes from arbiter of good taste, Ester Rico (@jenesuispasjuliet), who has opted for a rustic look for the Christmas table.
Products:
- MOGNAD set of six LED tealights
- FENOMEN set of five unscented block candles
- UPPLAGA 22 cm white plate
- DINERA 14 cm beige bowl
- FANTASTISK red paper napkins
- FEJKA 26 x 26 cm artificial wall-mounted plant
- FEJKA 9 cm artificial plant
- POKAL wine glasses
- JUBLA chandelier candles
Ester decided to make the best use of this beautiful wooden table and not hide it under a tablecloth.
To decorate it, she created a table runner using artificial branches and leaves, which she lit up with pretty candles and a string of LED lights. For the tableware, she opted for a simple set of white plates and bowls, as well as some beautiful glass wine glasses – perfect for bringing a little more sparkle to the table.
The deep red of the napkins and the decorative touches added to the plates make this a spectacularly Christmassy table. What do you think of the end result?
2. White and gold Christmas table
Now for something completely different from Judith Casado (@laalegriademicasa), who has opted for a modern and simple Christmas table with winter white as the main colour.
Products:
- FENOMEN set of five unscented block candles
- Natural-style place mats
- FLIMRA champagne glasses
- White bowls
As you can see, you don't need a huge list of products to create a beautiful and original table setting. Plus, we're sure that you already have many of these items at home. It's just a matter of combining them in a different way.
Judith has played with the subtlety and freshness of the white and added little hints of colour with the gold place mats and the contrasting plant in the centre of the table. A few candles, a few glass champagne flutes to toast the festive period and you're all set! This gorgeous table cost next to nothing.
3. Christmas table with a tropical vibe
Can you have a tropical-style Christmas table? Of course you can! In fact, this third design is not only unorthodox, it's extremely effective. Let's introduce you to the very interesting and, of course, affordable alternative from María Alba (@mami.doc).
Products:
- TORGERD fabric by the metre (2 metres)
- BOMULL fabric by the metre
- STRÄLA LED pendant lamp
- VARDAGEN glass goblet
- DINERA dark grey plate
- DINERA beige plate
- DINERA dark grey bowl
- DINERA beige bowl
María found a creative way to make the budget work for her, sewing the napkins and Christmas tablecloth herself. What a talent! And it's not a bad idea if you're looking to save a little money without compromising on a great design. For her Christmas table centrepiece, she gave our STRÄLA pendant lamp a new lease on life and used it to encircle the rest of the ornaments, which included delicious dried oranges! To finish off her Christmas table, she added a few popular iconic star decorations.
4. Minimalist Christmas table
If you don't usually decorate your home much for Christmas but still want to make your table look festive, you can always opt for minimalist decor to keep things simple without compromising on style. This is the Christmas table designed by Alexandra Fernández (@nordiccorners).
Products:
- SOARÉ place mat
- MOGNAD LED block candle
- VINTERFEST Christmas wreath
- BEHÄRSKA lantern for tealight
- GODTAGBAR ceramic candlestick
- DINERA grey-blue plate
- DINERA grey-blue bowl
You don't always have to go ornate at Christmas, especially if you want to keep your home comfortable and practical. If, like Alexandra, you just want to add a few Christmas touches to your home, this is your perfect Christmas table. In fact, it's a great example of why you don't always need to use Christmas decorations to dress a Christmas table. You'll notice that it's the little details, like the candles and plants, which give this table its festive look. Easy, beautiful and very comfortable!
