IKEA urges customers to return all blue and red MATVRÅ bibs due to a potential risk that the closure button could become detached and may cause asphyxiation if swallowed.

Customers are asked to return the product to any store for a full refund or a replacement with a similar product. Proof of purchase is not required. This is a preventive measure after receiving two reports of incidents in Norway and the United Kingdom, both of which did not require medical attention. MATVRÅ bibs with a fruit and vegetable pattern in green and yellow are safe as the design and materials used are different.

Other bibs with the MATVRÅ name and with a green/yellow fruit/vegetable pattern are safe, as the design and materials used are different", she said.

Product safety is the number one priority at IKEA, and all products undergo rigorous internal and third-party testing to determine whether they comply with applicable regulations, legislation and quality standards in each country. All products comply with applicable legislation and regulations in each market in which IKEA operates. Such actions are taken whenever a possible risk is detected, however small.

Mastersite example: IKEA recalls LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum for choking hazard
14-01-2016

IKEA urges customers who have LATTJO drum sticks or LATTJO tongue drum to bring them back to any IKEA store for a full refund.

This is a precautionary recall due to 6 reports from IKEA store co-workers that the rubber ball of the drum sticks can detach or be unscrewed. The recommended age for these toys are 6+ yrs old, however a loose rubber ball can attract smaller children and in worst case lead to choking. No incidents have been reported.

The products are tested and approved to applicable toy safety standards. However, during our subsequent investigation we identified risks that the standards do not address.

“We develop products intended to stimulate children’s creativity and natural need for play. Children don’t think about safety when playing, so we need to do that when we develop products. Our mindset at IKEA is that we only sell products that we would give to our own children. Despite approved tests to relevant toy safety standards we are therefore precautionary recalling LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum to avoid the risk of any incidents,” says Cindy Andersen, Business Area Manager for children’s products at IKEA.

LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum have been sold on all IKEA markets since 1st November 2015.
The LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required for a full refund. For more information, please visit www.IKEA.ie/ or contact IKEA on 01 541 3302.
