Does ELVARLI need to be fixed to the ceiling?

You can read more detailed information in the respective assembly instruction as well, which you find on the IKEA homepage on the respective product page in the section "product description" and further below in "assembly instruction".

There are two different possibilities for combinations. It is required to have the combinations with side units assembled onto the wall. For combinations with posts, an assembly onto the ceiling is required, so that any further assembly to the wall isn't necessary. For this reason, combinations with posts make up great room dividers.
