How to choose the right curtains for your living room

Saying yes to privacy and no to sun glare starts with your window treatments. It's all about choosing the solution that works best for you. Whether that's blackout curtains or sheer fabric, a corner fixture or a simple panel, you can find them all in a range of colors and styles at IKEA Canada.

Levels of light filtration

Depending on the fabric you select, you can create different moods across the home. Pairing two different styles of curtains gives you the flexibility to fine-tune the amount of light entering your room.

Sheer fabric curtains

The sheer fabric diffuses daylight entering the room when it is brighter outside and softens glare on TV and digital screens. This style of curtains is perfect to use in a layered window solution.

Light filtering curtains

The light-filtering fabric dims the daylight entering the room when it is brighter outside and reduces glare. It gives you a comfortable sense of privacy since people cannot see in during the daytime. The outside light still comes through and creates a cozy atmosphere in the room.

Room darkening curtains

These curtains make a room darker, quieter, and cozier – perfect when you want to watch a movie or treat yourself to a stay-in. Room darkening curtains give you a strong sense of privacy as people cannot see in day or night.

Blackout curtains

With blackout curtains, your sleep won't be disturbed by moonlight and street lights - or be woken by the sun when you want to sleep in late. Blackout curtains are also effective at keeping out both drafts in the winter and heat in the summer.
