Buyer Beware -- Too big to fit well under the small Idasen desk that Ikea sells.Martin H.On the plus side, this looks good, seems solid and sturdy, and I like the design. But the negatives outweigh the positives. As several others mentioned, this is a bear to put together. It was a 2 hour job, which involved bending metal tabs with a screwdriver. Injured by fingers doing that. It's also described as fitting well under a desk, but that doesn't hold true for the smaller Idasen desk that Ikea sells. Third, to take this back I'm told I have to disassemble. That will take a long time, and I'm afraid I'll damage it in the process. Ikea really should rethink that policy for items that involve this level of assembly. Finally, I agree that this piece is too expensive for what it is, especially when you factor in the amount of time it takes to assemble. Ugh, one of the few bad experiences I've had with Ikea.1
Great, but really hard to put togetherAlexandraThis was the hardest piece of ikea furniture I've ever assembled and it's pretty expensive. The instructions were fine, but a lot of the holes for the screws are in awkward to reach places that make them VERY difficult to get to with the force it requires with a standard screwdriver. I would probably recommend at minimum a rachetting screwdriver with a long neck for tight spaces. At least one of the holes was questionably machined and required a good deal of strength for me to get the screw to tighten.
With that said, I really like it now that it's assembled. Very sturdy. Some reviews mention that the file hangers are European size, but there's an attachment included that allows you to use with regular US file hangers. Maybe they missed the installation for that piece or ikea newly added it? Either way, that was not a problem.3
Great item!ARWENWe are using it as a side table. It was a little difficult to put together without a second person holding the sides.5
Perfect little organizerJuneLove this little organizer! Perfect on wheels!5
NOW FITS NORMAL FOLDERS!Elizabeth S.As everyone says, this is a big pain to assemble. With patience and persistence, the instructions really are accurate. I'm unsure about the quality, as I have not really used it - it doesn't seem like it's going to hold up to regular use (mainly the drawers) - but we shall see. I was thrilled to find that there is now an adapter in the lower drawer that makes it fit normal sized USA folders. I returned the A4s I had purchased based on the other reviews.3
God AWFULPaul R.Who ever design this steaming pile was a complete idiot and has zero care for user experience. Our holes were poorly milled, the drawers were uneven, nothing went together properly and felt CHEAP. I wasted 300$ on a POS drawer that will be going straight in the trash. Move on from this one and find something better. My 100$ target filing cabinet is made better than this. If I could get my money back I would.1
Clever design, beautiful and sturdyRachel P.Bought this to accompany the 2 IDASEN cabinets already in my office. I love them - very high quality and built to last. Far better than other industrial/professional grade furniture I’ve used. End result is clean, stylish (the colors and rich paint tone cannot be understated), and highly functional.
Assembly: anything with drawers will require more extensive assembly but even with that, we found the assembly to be clever, minimizing the amount of actual screwing needed. Pieces fit beautifully together revealing a very thoughtful design. Especially appreciate the leveling mechanism on the drawers so they can be adjusted to sit perfectly flush in the base - brilliant! I’ve assembled the cabinets but my 12 year old built this one for me without assistance. I think they just require patient assembly- give yourself time so you don’t have to rush.5
Good Qualitypaul r.This was a little more challenging to assemble than other IKEA items but it works really well and is really solid once you start using it.5
Practical PerformanceGretchenPerfect size, flexible and oh, so useful! We bought one for everyone in the office!5
Not really practicalLeslieOf course, nice design, but the "no top" idea is not a good idea and waste of space. Pretty, but need to return2
Impact driver required?!Cheuk C.Not an expert Ikea assembler. Took me two hours with several breaks. Overall not too difficult to put together but needed to take out my impact driver for parts 193736 & 193737 (don't know what they are called). And all the pointy screws require some muscle.
Drawer's nice looking. My Brother printer fits nicely on top.4
PracticalVerified BuyerThis cabinet goes nicely with the Idasen desk. It’s easy to assemble with patience though desk was even easier.5
love itEricThis is a great product. Just needs to be a little cheaper5
It's a nice little fileRobertaIt's a nice little file holder on wheels. It would be better if there was a way to lock the wheels, it moves very easily on my wood floors.5
Nice Looking File Cabinet, Difficult to InstallVerified BuyerThis is a great looking cabinet but difficult to install (and we have installed a lot of IKEA stuff). Requires patience. The golden brown color is gorgeous. Not sure about the other reviews, but it fits letter sized files just fine for us; there is an adapter piece included.4
Excellent!dondraperBeutiful drawer unit. It was not hard to assemble as other reviews have said, just requires a little bit more time than normal, but I really had no issue. True that it doesn't fit US size document hangers, which is the only negative thing.5
Great lookingRaise484This was more difficult than most IKEA pieces to assemble (and we’re pretty experienced), but we’re glad we persevered. It’s stylish and sturdy! The drawer slides are ingenious and work well.4
Regular File Folders Don’t FitACM87I purchased, assembled, and went to use this unit only to discover that it only takes European sized hanging files. Fun fact, IKEA USA doesn’t carry these.1
Frustrating to buildIrish RoverI had read previous reviews warning just how difficult this unit can be to build, but as a seasoned IKEA pro, I ignored the warnings and purchased the unit anyway. I have never experienced such frustration in my life as putting this thing together. Some of the pre-drilled holes were too big, others were too small, and others didn’t line up. I had to resort to drilling holes to make them larger or adding plugs to reduce the size of others. In all, it took me an entire day to build the thing. Sure, it looks attractive and seems sturdy, but would I do it again? No way! Now I face the added frustration of finding files that will fit!1
MerintxLove the look , color and fits perfect on the intended spot. What I don’t like is that the top drawer goes in too deep and not leveled to edge.4
